COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India Pale Ales were brewed in the 19th century with long sea travel in clipper ships across the equator to India in mind. In order to endure these rigours, the beers were high in alcohol and brewed with plenty of hops. The hops provided a spicy bitterness balancing the malt and maintaining the quality of the ale through the natural antibacterial properties of hops. McAuslan has brewed a classic IPA using a blend of pale and specialty malts giving the beer a New World Twist.

Bottle 341 ml. On a tulip glass. Pours almost crystal clear orange. Nice medium creamy white head. Aroma: roasted malt, hops. Not much else. Taste: good strong bitterness all along. Aftertaste is astringant. Thin beer, not much carbonation. Dry finish. This beer is refreshing. Not so bad, but not hoppy enough for an IPA.

Pretty, but lacks a good hop aroma. Aftertaste is harsh and slightly astringent. The aftertaste stayed with me way too long and was not pleasant. I’d have expected better from this brewery.

@Mondial de la Bière 2012, Montreal - dark golden beer with a good head retention; caramel and peaches in the nose; a good malt backbone and a decent bitterness; long resiney and flowery hoppy finish

Poured room temperature from 341mL bottle into flute. Such a strange aroma for an IPA, it’s very light and smells yeasty like a Belgian dubbel with a slight pepperyness. It pours as a clear light amber with a 2-3cm billowing head. After a few minute the head is all but gone. Given the above and the first taste, I almost feel like this bottle was mislabeled. There is some bitterness, but it tastes like an English bitter, not an IPA, there’s also quite a bit of sourness there too. It’s not unpleasant, just unexpected. As evidenced by the head, this is quite carbonated, and has a long bitter finish.
