3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Belle apparence dorée. Arômes de malt et de houblons bien équilibrés. Amertume bien présente après une entrée bien développée de malts pale et caramels. Très bonne bière!

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
It pours copper with straw highlights; the head is off-white and foamy. The aroma has notes of: grapefruit, grassy-notes, alcohol, and toffee. The taste is medium-light bitter that finishes medium bitter with light astringency; there are notes of: grapefruit, alcohol, burnt caramel, and slight malt. The palate is medium-light bodied, has medium carbonation, a slightly oily mouthfeel, and a long bitter finish. Overall, it’s overly simple.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft at the only cafe. Dark copper body. herbal and grassy. Reminiscent of their apricot beer on the nose in a way, unique and nice. The bitterness doesn’t really shine through on the nose, but hits well in the mouth. Enjoyable and unique. A current favorite.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
341ml bottle (dated 02/08/2012) served in a St-Ambroise tulip glass around 6 degrees:
Visually, you get a clear dark copper pour holding rough carbonation and topped off by about two fingers of bright frothy head. I found the foam very airy and it also left large spotted lacing.
The nose is mostly dominated by sweet elements (honey, brown sugar, corn syrup), but grassy/herbal hops and some soapy yeasts can also easily be found.
On the tongue, this ale will unwrap different layers of flavour, starting with a sweet attack of honey and corn syrup. It’s closely followed by a more bready element from the malts and it ends on a herbal and floral note from the hops. Finishes dry, it was very well balanced from start to finish and it held a moderate bitterness. Density is off the charts giving it unbelievable corpus and an enjoyable creamy texture.
Overall, this EnglishIPA is an excellent product. It’s complex, structured, balanced, full-bodied, and all that, without being overwhelming. Enjoy it fresh so you get all its properties. Cheers!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Nice gold with a slight orange tint, medium offwhite head. Smells resinous and hoppy. Slight hop bitterness with more malts for balance, the hop flavours themselves are grassy and resinous, medium to light bodied, juicy and refreshing, pretty nice, although I have faith McAuslan can make one with even more punch ;)

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
473 mL Can poured into a shaker. Clear medium amber pour with a medium to tall off--white head. Caramel and pine aroma. Taste is a little sweet, but similar pine, caramel profile, some resinous bitterness too. Just a nice good IPA.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Clear golden coloured body with a bit of a copper glow and a nice, four centimetre tall tan head, slightly ugly with large bubbles. Aroma of malt, hop pellets, caramel, nuts, earth, citrus and a definite german and english hop scent. Light-bodied; Strong malty flavour up front with a very subdued hop element and a very light caramel note behind. Aftertaste shows a mix of yeast and a very light hop note overtaken by very subdued malts - this shows almost exactly of an english style bitter on cask (a real ale) with very little flavours and subdued elements throughout. Overall, a decent IPA if that, that is really an EPA or a bitter, perhaps (although more alcohol, for sure), but not up to the standard of either the style or from McAuslan, itself. I sampled this sixteen ounce (473 mL) can purchased from Marche des Sauveurs in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 20-September-2014 for CA$2,50 sampled at home back in Washington on 30-October-2014.
