COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
India Pale Ales were brewed in the 19th century with long sea travel in clipper ships across the equator to India in mind. In order to endure these rigours, the beers were high in alcohol and brewed with plenty of hops. The hops provided a spicy bitterness balancing the malt and maintaining the quality of the ale through the natural antibacterial properties of hops. McAuslan has brewed a classic IPA using a blend of pale and specialty malts giving the beer a New World Twist.

Nice! Clear orange pour with a foamy head - no lacing. Flavour is zesty, grassy and hoppy with a good level of hoppy bitterness and pine.

Draught @ Pub du Parvis, Vieux Québec. Pours slightly hazy amber with airy white head. Clear aroma of yeast and malt, with bready notes and touches of hops. Sweetish flavour of caramel malt, with notes of yeast and bitter, hoppy touches. Sweetish, estery and malty aftertraste with notes of hops. Drinkable but poor for the style.

Poured from can. Aroma of citrus. Pours a clear golden with white head. Taste is a medium bitter. Medium body, oily texture, with a bitter finish. Not that great compared to the best IPAs out there.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a golden orange colour with a medium white head. Aroma is light hops, grass. Taste is same. Not bad, but there are better IPAs out there.

So I got this as a free sample for the store I work at. Had decent color and aroma but then I tasted it. There was a clear taste of corn, as if they used corn in the mash. I dumped it out.

341 mL bottle. Copper-brown with a small, bright white head. The aroma is actually a balance of caramel malt and piney, herbal hops. The flavour is much the same. Decent bitterness. I’d really like to see more from the hops, especially in the flavour.

Pours a clear copper color with a small white head. Nose of light malt with some notes of earthy floral hops.Medium body. Dry to sweet on the taste. You reallyget the malt in the beguinning then the hops kick in for a medium hoppy finish. I really like it.

Single 341 ml bottle from Liquor Depot, served in a nonic pint. Pours a brilliant orangey-amber shade with light carbonation and a fluffy cap of orange-tinted white, with good retention and leaving doily-like lace rings. Aroma is a lovely hit of fresh resinous and citrus hops with mildly sweet malts keeping the backbone straight. Flavor is led by puckeringly bitter piney hops leaving their mark on the back of the tongue, while the citrus and malt retreat from the resinous wallop. Thin, with a good finish, although the astringency hangs around long enough to be a nuisance. It’s a good IPA, but it’s kind of problematic due to its imbalanced, bitey bitterness, and its 6.5% abv punch rules out sessioning.

Weaker smell. Mainly hop and citrus. Copper with bubbly white top. Nice balance of hop and sweetness. Sweetness is most distinctivly caramel. Moderate carbonation and only slightly oily.
