Went down as smooth as, dark body with good light tan head that lasted well and left clumps of lacing. Good aroma, malt, chocolate, coffee and toasted notes. Same again in the taste, a lIttle thin making it easy to drink. Enjoyable. BrewCzar (108), St Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 14, 2009 Another Bottle from Daknole. Thanks. Pours dark brown with a medium beige head. Aroma is sweet and malty with hints of oats, toffee, and dried fruits such as orange and raisins. Taste has lots of rasted notes, oats, and slight nuttiness. Finish is very bitter and very dry. Aroma is much more profound than the taste. Palate is thin but smooth. Stew41 (1047), Caulfield, Australia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 13, 2009 Poured an absolute treat; dark chocolate and choc orange / coffee coloured head. Lots of sweet roast and chocolate waftes up together with a sweeter fruity edge. Palate firms up considerably with bitter roast, soft choc orange but an absence of the sweet chocolate. This is good stout, but no way is it a 99%er. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 12, 2009 12 oz. bottle. Opaque brown/black body under a creamy tan head and decent lace. Aroma of chocolate and coffee, some nice vanilla, and hints of spice. Full, creamy body, lighlty carbonated, amooth and dry on the palate. Treacle and chocolate sweetness, softly bittered for a nice balance. A very smooth and drinkable stout. ChainGangGuy (2544), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 3, 2009 Appearance: Pours a dark brown, near black body with a frothy, light tan head.
Smell: Roasty, oat-encrusted aroma with notes of unsweetened chocolate and coffee, along with a small whiff of black licorice.
Taste: Pleasing mixture of cold, black coffee, creamy steel cut oats, and chocolate. Medium-low amount of sweetness. Lesser tastes of licorice and vanilla. Faint fruitiness. Earthy, roasty bitterness. Further taste of roasted barley and a light pinch of good, clean soot on the dry finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Decidedly creamy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Recommended. As an oatmeal stout charged with plenty of flavor and yet still manages to maintain a reasonable ABV%, I’d say it’s got a damned high degree of drinkability. Fred82 (365), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
