3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 3, 2005 Smokey, roasty, liquorice, choc aroma. I thought I could smell some smoked ham or something in this. Satisfying chocolate and liquorice flavours, though not as complex as the aroma hinted. Dry finish was a little too short for something with such great flavours. Thanks Josh for this fine example and many more.

Guinness should take lessons from these guys. This is the real deal, pitch black, with complex flavours of espresso coffee, liquorice, and dark fruit combine with a well-hopped bitterness. A true world classic, I prefer the bottled version to the draught. Nitrogen does not do it for me. It just dumbs down the beer- any beer.

One of my first (and favorite) beers. Made locally, the stuff is always excellent when purchased, and goes down smooth on ever occasion.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
A great looking beer: dark brown bordering on black with a huge tan head. Nice chocolate malt and coffee aroma. Flavor has one heck of a hop bite to it, a great surprise for a stout. Thick, meaty texture. Definitely suggested. Thanks again, DougShoemaker!

4.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is one of the best Stouts I have had. It has large nice head, very nicely balanced and leaves a nicely balanced hoppy, moccha aftertaste. Thanks Doug Shoemaker

Normally, I do not have much love for the oatmeal stout, however, this is an exception. Black color with a large coppery/brown head. Has a great roasted chocolate smell with some hints of mocha, or something like that and it even seems to have somewhat of a rye smell in the background. Seems to have some jim beam flavors in it to add to the thick malty chocolate coffee taste. An impressive beer to say the least.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Awesome stout. Opaque deep, dark brown/black color with a brown head. The aroma was a decadent mix of roasted coffee beans and chocolate. The flavor was more roasty and bitter with a pure chocolate aftertaste. Crisp feel...not as smooth as I would expect from an oatmeal stout, but refreshing. Great stout.

UPDATED: APR 6, 2003 A perennial favourite. To this day, its' dark pour and chocolate brown head bring a smile to my face. An olfactory medley draws me close. Beguiling malts and a hoppy smack in the face finish with a lingering sweetness. I've come to enjoy this black beauty with a slice of fresh, warm pecan pie and a side of French vanilla ice cream.

Midnight black color. Medium head. Aroma is roasted malts and chocolate. A medium bodied sweet stout. Deeply roasted malts. Big dark malt flavors, chocolate, coffee, vanilla and a touch of wood. Extremely smooth. Creamy and slightly sweet. Very easy to drink, nice sipping beer. Complex yet subtle, Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.
