Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Pour is a black with no head. Aroma is roasted malt with some coffee and chocolate. Flavor is much of the same. The beer starts off with a sweet chocolate but after the swallow you get more of the bitter coffee. A decent beer and a pretty solid stout although I would probably not spend $9 for the 4 pack of this but picking up another single is not out of the question.

12oz bottle. Pours black in color with full foamy brown head. Aroma sweet, chocolate roasted coffee. Taste malt, coffee and spicey with bitter finish. It did not live up to the hype. Maybe oatmeal stouts are not my cup of tea.

I have been wanting to try this one for a long time. Picked it up in Cincy and just couldn’t wait to pop it open. Sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype and anticipation. Nice aroma, hints of oatmeal and coffee. Flavor is the same, with some chocoate and barley added in. Overall, this one was just too watery. I guess I expected a bigger, bolder "Oat" and this just wasn’t it. Actually, I thought this one was on par with Barley Islands Brass Knuckles.

12oz bottle from Ron’s in Farmington. Pours opaque black body with a half inch or so of tan head. Tastes roasty, like baker’s chocolate with molasses notes and slight oatmeal taste toward the finish. Medium-bodied with a fair amount of carbonation. Nothing wrong with this brew - just a solid tasty oatmeal stout.

bottle - my personal favorite for stouts. Pours jet black with a nice tan head. Aroma is complex with coffee/chocolate. Very smooth creamy body with a smokey taste. Just overall a great stout.

bottle. an excellent stout. pours a dark black with a good sized tan head. nice lacing throughout. Superb aroma - full of espresso, dark cherries, and chocolate. Smooth body overall - very soft on the sides and top... bitter up front and some dark cherry towards the back. Chocolate cake finish that leaves rather quickly, but leaves you wanting more.

This stout has a black pour with a dark tan head that thins out after a few minutes, left some lacing on the glass, there are dark roasted malt aromas with faint licorice in the background, hint of smoke and some coffee, faint dry chocolate fragrance in the background, fair amount of dark roasted malt flavor with a bitterness on the tongue, coffee flavor with very little sweet in this brew, some lingering dark roast and bitterness at the finish, very smooth on the palate, faint taste of smokiness(?)*(from roasted or burnt malt?), mouth feel is medium, this is a pretty intense dry dark roasty stout with a bit of bitterness but very smooth.

Bottles courtesy of mreusch and kmweaver. Thanks for the bottles guys! Pours jet black with a loose, creamy, tan head that laces nicely. The nose is of lactose, dark roasted coffee and dark chocolate. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and silky-slick with a bitter-roasted and mildly dry finish. The flavor really opens up on this one as it warms: roasted dark malt, coffee and dark chocolate with a lightly bitter hop note at the finish. I began drinking this one a bit too cool, but once it warmed a bit more, it transformed into an exceptionally smooth and tasty stout. This beer would make an excellent poster child for illustrating the importance of proper serving temperature.
