skaughty (621), Marietta, Georgia, USA Mar 8, 2008 From the tap at Pub St. Alexandre - Pours a rich black, with cascading tan micro-bubbles. The aroma is a tad off-putting for the style - wet cheese and glue. After the strange sniff, the velvet goodness ensues. The lacing matches the web it casts and it slithers down in its roasted goodness. The amount of oatmeal it must take to make a beer this smooth must be paddle-breaking. This cream of dark chocolate soup couldn’t feel better on the palate. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Mar 7, 2008 11.5 ounce bottle in pint glass. Dark/brown black with dense puffy thick brown head. Roasted coffee sugar honey bread aroma. Roasted coffee espresso raisins medium bitter lingering tart finish. Soft mouthfeel. Medium body, low carbo. Very nice. Miver (547), WillowStreet, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 6, 2008 11.5 oz bottle. Pours pitch black with a brown lingering head and great lacing. Aroma of oatmeal, and hints of coffee. Taste is of bitter chocolate, oats, slight coffee with mild sour note and acidity. Slightly thin mouth feel which was surprising to me based on the lacing and the mere opacity. Other then that quite a nice brew. Beerlando (2281), Orlando, Florida, USA Mar 3, 2008 Pours very dark mahogany with a compact dark khaki head. Delicate, jagged lines of lacing circle the glass. The aroma shows roasty coffee and baker’s chocolate, with gobs of smoothing oatmeal, oak, and vanilla. Ultimately, the roast dominates the nose. Similarly, the flavor is of charred oak kissed chocolate and coffee malts. Oatmeal really adds alot, as this one would ultimately be too roasty if it weren’t for the soothing effects of the grain. Drinks very smooth, but falls a bit short on body. Carbonation is a tad bit overly active. Finishes long and roasted. Nice brew, but certainly overrated. michael-pollack (2598), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 2, 2008 12oz. Bottle: Aroma of chocolate, oats, cream, roasted malts, Ringwood yeast, and coffee. Poured black in color with a medium-sized, creamy, brown head that diminished but not totally. Opaque. Flavor is mildly sweet. Tastes of roasted malts, smoked, Ringwood yeast, coffee, oats, and some bitter chocolate. Medium body. Lightly chalky, slightly thin, texture. Soft carbonation. Roasted malt and oat finish. marchcow (664), Coralville, Iowa, USA Mar 1, 2008 Updated: Sep 30, 2008Malty aroma with hops backdrop. Sweetish. Dark chocolate brown with a tan head. Flavors are initially bitter, coffee, roasted, some chocolate, sweet milk flavor, dryish on the finish. Some sour qualities. Thin palate, almost watery. Well carbonated. Overall good flavors but a little too thin an bubbly on the palate. Scubatrip (387), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA Mar 1, 2008 From the bottle, with many thanks to Secret Santa 07, pours black with a thick tan head and thick, residual foamy lacing down the sides. Vey nice aroma, rather bread-y, with a hint of chocolate and alcohol. Taste is smooth with flavors of cappuccino, chocolate, alcohol. Very smooth, hardly any aftertaste, except a light touch of coffee/espresso. Thinner than I anticipated, but overall very good. Thank you Santa. thooper41 (384), Oregon, USA Feb 28, 2008 Updated: Mar 1, 200811.5 oz bottle thanks to kramer17801: pours pitch black quick fading tan head, aroma of roased malt and chocolate, 1st sip i did not like, tasted like leather, being a decent fan of stouts i tried to think optimistic about this beer so took a second sip like i never had the 1st one and thats where i began to like it losts of roased malt and by lots of it i mean well roased they might have even burnt it followed by a slight sweet taste almost a little bit of caramel too. decent stout after the 1st sip but nothing to crazy.
