Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

12 oz bottle from trade with ketchepillar. Deep black/brown color with deep tan head. Coffee and smokey aroma. Rich mouthfeel with nice roasted grain and a bit of chocolate in the flavor. Some oat flavor comes through too. Very nice oatmeal stout.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of dark bread, roasted and milk chocolate, light notes of pine and leather, with raisin, toffee, cola and tobacco in the background. Head is rocky, light brown with excellent lacing and is fully lasting. Color is pitch black. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic, moderately bitter and just a touch sour. Palate is medium to full, creamy with a soft to lively carbonation. A very good and complex stout, just a little short on the boldness I would expect.

Bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is sweet and roasted malt, with notes of coffee, sweet chocolate and dried cherry. A bit watery for a stout. Flavor starts with roasted malt, then sweet chocolate and fruit, and finishes on a nice bitter coffee note. Very good and very drinkable.

Pours black with a unpleasant looking off tan head. Aroma of oat and a bit of coffee. Flavor is similar, rather dull. vanilla, oats, hints of coffee. Over carbonated, takes away from the smoothness. Kind of bitter in a not so great way. Not impressed.

Thanks to Phil for this one. Pours black with a thick layer of brown head. A chocolate and cola aroma is noticeable. Flavor is somewhat watery with coffee and roast. Lightly chocolaty as well. Creamy textured body.

Bottle from Sergio’s - Pours pitch black with a thin foamy mocha head. Tastes of chocolate malt, foamy roast, oatmeal, toffee, and vinous malt. Mouthfeel is full bodied with lush carbonation. Pretty enjoyable stout, a bit overrated though.

11.2 oz bottle courtesy of mreusch. Pour is deep black with a mocha head with big carbonation bubbles in the solid foam. Beautiful in the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and some soft breadiness. Something else distinctive in the nose that I can’t quite but my finger on, candy sweetness almost - though more rounded? Taste has the roasted malt, taste has more coffee to it then nose had. There is also some nice mellow cocoa / milk chocolate sweetness and a bitter hop finish. The oatmeal really shows in the big, full body. This was a great stout, thanks Matt. 38 39 40 right at top of stout category. Thanks for this one Matt!
