Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Bottle from porterhouse - thanks, Kevin! Sweet and slightly sour roast aroma, some great funky-nutty Dunkel notes. Some dark candied fruit and an English ale yeast strain. Dry with slight bittering hops. Pitch pour with a GORGEOUS dark brown head, lacing and rocky and bubbly and spoonable. Strong smoked character with heavy roast. Predominately very dry with only the occasional flash of sweetness. Nutty with slight dark pitted fruit underneath. Burned notes from copious black malt. Touch of cocoa with lots of chocolate. Thin, watery body is usually a negative but makes this all the more sessionable. Very robust tasting but not over-the-top; manages to retain a high degree of complexity. Alcohol perfectly hidden and low enough to warrant a little binge. Light bitterness and nice and dark. Very high praise for this one: after over eighty stouts, this is one of my favorites.

Poured black with a brown fluffy head. Aroma of oatmeal, chocolate, and coffee. Big oatmeal flavors with chocolate, coffee, and fruit hints. More sweet than roasted. Very smooth.

(Bottle) Pours black. Dry and roasted aroma with tones of cocoa, chocolate, caramel, coffee powder and smoke. Fruity undertones of raisins and plums. Salty and roasted flavour with tones of sweet liquorice, chocolate, coffee, gravel, mint and caramel. Some sal ammoniac in the aftertaste. Light sweet and medium bitter. Round and caramel syrupy mouthfeel. Medium bodied. Yeah.

Bottle. Pitch black pour, with a small but dense beige to tan head. Nice lacings. Roasted nose with molasses, coffee, licorice and some weak alcohol notes. For a 5% ABV beer, it is certainly nice, but I could wish more more chocolatey aromas. Considering the ABV, it’s quite full-bodied, with a quite dry mouthfeel, and a little warming feeling towards the end. The flavor is dominated by roastiness, but also chocolate and coffee plays a significant part. It is quite bitter, but there’s not much hoppy bitterness to be detected, it’s mostly the coffee-like bitterness. It is a nice beer that slides down quite easily. (071008)

12oz bottle (Thanks radiomgb) pours pitch black with a thick mocha head. Rich, roasted chocolate malt aroma, with coffee overtones. Big roasted coffee and chocolate flavor, with some hops coming in at the finish. Long, bitter chocolate finish. Medium bodied. Excellent stout.

My favorite of my favorite style. An extremely smooth and well-balanced oatmeal stout with a little less viscosity and a bit more carbonation than most making it easier to drink.
