Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Almost opaque black small expresso head. Light roasted aroma with some lactose in it. Roasted, a bit hoppy, coffeish. Finish is average, but this is really pleasant oat meal stout.

(Stockholm Beer Festival 2007) Bottle. Black, creamy brown head. Malty, vinous chocolate aroma. Chocolate flavor, vinous, some tar and vinegar.

(Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 21 Sep 2007) Black colour with brown hints, brief frothy brown head. Roasted nose with slightly sweetish chocolate notes, liquorice and soy sauce. Roasted taste with chocolate, roasted oat flakes, hints of smoke and a nice citrussy bitterness in a fairly dry finish. A little prickly on the tongue. Very well balanced, very nice.

I’ve had this before, but this rating is based on a pint my wife ordered at Beerbistro tonight. Nice dark body, with a thick tan head. You can’t get any more classical in appearance for this style. Smells of roasted malts and caramel. Chocolate and coffee tones in the flavour, compliment the malts. A very smooth drink, and highly recommended.

Courtesy mgumby10. Dark brown/black with a small, off white head. Roasty malt, dark chocolate, subtle licorice and coffee. Very nice, not very complex. Medium body, balanced carbonation, soft. Solid, but a bit overrated.

Black with a thick, creamy brown head. Aroma of caramel, milk chocolate, and roasted coffee. Full flavor of chocoalte and coffee, a touch vinous. Big, roasty finish is dry as a bone. Silky smooth, medium mouthfeel. Beautiful stuff. (Bottle acquired in trade with MartinT. Thanks, man!)

Bottle, with a HUGE THANKS to robinvboyer! Pours a dark brown with a fluffy three finger thick dark tan head; great lacing. Nice aroma of chocolate and espresso, that works very well together. Flavor is more chocolate and fresh roast coffee, with a lingering roasty presence. Palate is silky and smooth, with medium carbonation and a nice finish. This is a nice one!

From the bottle. Reminded me of a drinking a cold espresso -- very rich coffee flavour -- but it works. I can see why this is one of the highest-rated beers.
