Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Big thanks to radiomgb for shipping this to me as a bonus beer..... one hell of a bonus beer. Pours very dark brown with a tight burnt orange head. The aroma has milk chocolate, creamy roasted chocolate malt, coffee bitterness and vanilla - very lush, rich and wonderful. The body it s bit heavier than medium body with some gentle prickly carbonation on the finish. The flavor starts with coffee, dark chocolate, bitter roasted malt, light sharp fruit flavors and a good deal of char. The finish is sharper with some spicy hops in the mix and some light chocolate traits. There is some woodiness that comes through as it warms up. This is one huge beer for only being 5% alcohol. If I lived in Canada this beer would have a permanent place in my beer fridge. Massive thumbs up for undoubtedly the best oatmeal stout I’ve had.

341ml bottle. Pours dark brown, almost black with three fingers of light brown fluffy head. Good lacing with a sturdy head. Aromas of roasty malt, espresso, some chocolate and some smoky notes. Very roasty flavor with coffee notes and a nice lingering bitte finish. Medium bodied with an excellent smooth mouthfeel. Top quality stout.

What a wonderful simple beer. This is the classic oatmeal stout. The finish is crisp, flavour has a nice lactose component.

Bottle at delerium cafe, brussels. This was soo upsetting, i mean i dont like stouts generally, but this was something i was soo looking forward too but no one at the table wanted to drink it and we left over half of it, it was a dreadful attempt at a beer. Liquire and roasty malt character, some coffee in there too. Really one dimentional and utterly rubbish beer. Im suprised i gave it over a 1.

Thanks to RagallachMC for the bottle. Pours dark brown with a large, cascading head. Good lacing and foam retention. Aroma of dark malts, oatmeal, coffee, earth and liquorice. Amazingly dry for an oatmeals stout. Not a big hop presence, but big, roasty malt through and through.

WOW. Pours an almost totally black colour with a tiny glimmer of ruby in the bottom of the glass. The head is grey/brown and is very think, it leaves really nice lacing on the glass. Smells mostly of malts, mocha, coffee, chocolate. Taste is a lot of mocha and bitter dark chocolate malts, but also a touch of oats, with some smokiness. Nice oily mouth-feel, with a thick, full body. After finish is mostly lingering bitterness, with a delicious malty after-taste (definitely some molasses in there too). Really quite an amazing brew!

Bottle at home - shared with Mette. Black - light brown head. Aroma: Chokolate, coffee, roasted, hops. Taste: Burned, roasted, chokolate, coffee, nice but sharp hoppy. Light watery body. Ok smooth mouthfeeling. Bitter finish.

(341 ml bottle (best before 4/30/09) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/nova-scotia/hal target=blank>Premier Wine and Spirits) Elegant and tasty...Pours very dark coffee brown with three fingers of sturdy mocha head. Aroma of espresso, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. Mouthfeel very smooth but some light prickliness. Feels quite full but not quite chewy. Nicely formed rings of lacing. Flavor is rich espresso with hints of chocolate towards finish. Coffee flavor is strong but not overpowering. Somewhat bitter but the oatmeal and overall texture of the beer seem to dampen it. Quite damn drinkable.
