Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

341 mL bottle. Pours deep brown with a deep mocha head. Some chocolate, roasted malts, coffee, caramel and a slightly vinous nose. Med. body and fairly intense carbonation. Nice balance of sweetness, bitterness and acidity. Coffee, roasted malts, and lighter, sweeter malts come through. Decent lingering aftertaste.

Bottle at Fogg N’ Sudds in Vancouver. Poured an extreme black with a large thin to light brown head, more characteristic of an imperial stout. Little to no smell or I guess I have a codl. Chocolate bitter and malty taste, overall decent but not the best I’ve had. After reading other reviews I’m wondering if i got a skunked bottle somehow.

Bottle, much thanks to Oakes. Pours black with brown edges and a big dark tan head. The aroma is toffee, walnut, raisin, and hints of coffee and berries. The flavor has more coffee than the nose, with a robust smoked meat quality. It has a subtle sweetness that reminds me of yogurt-covered raisins. Finish is much like cocoa powder. The mouthfeel is carbonated, but without harming the robustness. Good stuff.

Wonderful sweet aroma - strong milk chocolate essence. Pours a dark, slightly reddish black with fantastic thick brown head (great retention, thick lace!). Creamy dark (patent?) & chocolate malts, nutty, sweet, and smooth. At times, it’s slightly sour with a dark chocolate & coffee aftertaste. Hopping compliments malts quite suitably. Mouthfeel is perfect - thick, ideal carbonation which simply rolls off the tongue. Overall, a truly exceptional stout.

12 oz bottle via trade with HogTownHarry. Pours a jet black cola color with a medium sized brownish beige head. Aroma is of dark bitter chocolate, roasted coffee beans, hazelnut and roasted barley. Taste is roasted coffee and hazelnut flavors as well as burnt dark chocolate. A good dry dark coffee aftertaste.

120z bottle via Ohiodad (thanks!). Pours a deep dark brown/almost black with ruby highlights and an average size bubbly tan head.Nose is similar to Flying Dog Imp Gonzo....vanilla, toffee, chocolate, some alcohol.Tastes like it smells with some oats, citrus hops, and a bittersweet chalky cocoa finish. Very tastey & easy drinking. I do not usually care that much for oatmeal in my stouts, but this one is really nice.

Rerating: Bottle from LCBO/The Sapphire Lounge. Poured black with very little head. Nose is of dark chocolate and well-brewed coffee. Taste is slightly bitter with strong notes of chocolate, coffee followed by hazelnuts. Mouthfeel is medium-thin and the body is just right for this stout. One of my top beers to this day.
