Similar to before, but the charred / burnt malt character in this gets to me after a while; overly burnt, with a generous dark chocolate and roasted malt core; perhaps a bit too inky and taxing on the palate after a while; doughy notes come through on the finish. A nice stout, and impressively dense for 5%. I have to be in a particular mood for this.

12oz bottle via trade from HogTownHarry. Thanks, Harry!! Pours a dark black center, with the slightest amount of light coming through at the edges; light brown head with good retention and lacing. Generous aroma shows plenty of milk / dark chocolate and charred malts. Medium viscosity, but a whole lot of flavor for a 5% beer: dark chocolate, coffee, smoky overtones; a citrusy hoppiness; creamy and layered, with a charred / roasted malt character leading into a long finish, with bitter chocolate and the slightest hint of hops. Such a good stout. 8.4.9.4.17=4.2. ElGaucho (1730), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Oct 22, 2006 Bottle at the Map Room. Dry oatmeal aroma with milk chocolate notes. Fully opaque body with a light brown head. Beautiful lace. Dry and underwhelming. Nice brew but clearly overrated. I can see this brew being considered well within the Stout style, but a 4.11 overall average score is too high. There’s nothing extraordinary about this brew. tomthompson89 (1453), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 22, 2006 choc coffee aroma dark dark black colour, good head retention, coffee flavour noce on tap Skidds (252), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 16, 2006 Aroma and and flavour of chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, licourice, and some fruits. Poured a gorgeous brown long lasting head. Absolutely excellent stout. pineypower (1075), Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA Oct 15, 2006 Thanks to Ughsmash for this one. Pours out a dark black color with a nice fluffy brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Taste is complex with coffee, roasted malt and some dried fruit with some hops on the finish. Rich velvet mouthfeel. Solid beer pivnizub (4947), Bochum, Porúří, Germany Oct 15, 2006 Bottle: Pitch black, lacing tanned head; roast malt and some slightly sourish fruitiness in the nose, hints of liquorice and coffee; dry bitter flavour; coffee, roast malt, dark fruits in the dry, lingering finish, light bodied. A satisfying, moreish stuff ! Danke vielmals, Jonas ! VeloVampire (483), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 9, 2006 Updated: Apr 18, 2007341 ml bottle - pours deeeeeep brown, almost black, with a beautiful cinnamon head - looks like a glass of espresso. Aromas of coffee, tar, black liquorice, and some ripe dark fruits. Big body and hugely complex. Coffee dominates again, but have another sip you’ll get dark chocolate, plum, wine, darkly roasted malt, some nutty flavours and the thickness of the oats. The follow through is slightly bitter to balance the malts, and the finish lasts forever. A great, great stout. Updated: had last night on tap at Magpie; even better than the bottle - pours with a thick, creamy nitro head, all the same as above, but flavours are much more robust and there is slightly less carbonation. StompBrockmore (300), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 6, 2006 Updated: Feb 23, 2007341 bottle - pours very dark brown/black with a medium, frothy tanned head that sticks around a little while. Aroma is fairly sweet and roasty, with oats, vanilla, along with coffee and chocolate. The flavour is rich, complex, with a toasted warmth and slight bitterness in the finish that lingers intensely after each sip. Mouthfeel is very smooth and creamy, making this easy drinking stuff, with a roundness and gorgeous balance in the flavour all the way through. Easily the most sessionable stout I’ve encountered. Nice, light bitterness in the finish. Good stuff, and the best oatmeal stout I’ve had. Excellent!
