St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout

12 oz. bottle. Pours almost black with slight ruby highlights and a creamy tan head. Roasted malt, smoke, coffee, chocolate, and a very slight vinous note. Very complex nose. Medium carbonation with a medium-rich mouthfeel. The palate closely follows the nose. Lots of roasted malt, a slight burnt note, a little mineral, and a bit of dark brown sugar. Medium-long finish with some lingering bitterness. Overall a decent if mild oatmeal stout.

Bottle once again from beerman6866 and a dld trade poured black with tan average head of tan thick with lots of lacing aromas of coffee,roasted malts and chocolte taste of the same nice stout

A great looking beer. but you can taste the alcohal in it. Strong roast malt flavour then strong alcohal aftertaste. Great aroma. a good transition beer from coffee to beer on one of those days.

incredible stout. black/brown in color, very dry, the oatmeal sneaks up on you and compliments the espresso/chocolate nicely. Mouth feel was almost "ashy" - in a good way.

Original review date 5/8/2009... Served on tap at The Manx (Ottawa) in a traditional imperial Pint glass... Pours like a classic nitro stout. Clean, velvety maple walnut-colored head. Dry, flat, opaque espresso brown body. Nice carbonation. There is a grain component on the aroma that is slightly obscured by the nitro carbonation...and maybe a little phenol - very neutral scent otherwise. In addition to being a solid sessionable stout there is a maple quotient to this along with the oats and patent malt. Very dry - a bit of grassy mellow hops as well. This drinks very cleanly for its weight class. Maple exudes a certain sweetness on the finish and the nitro brings a velvety character to the game. Drinks very nicely. I could session this up, and later on at the Ron Hawkins show at Zaphod’s that evening I did. Brought a few home in bottles as well and it plays nice there too. This is solid stuff.

11.5 oz bottle poured into pint glass. Smells a little like like cappuccino. Wow! Nice flavor to match the aroma. Not so much overpowering smoke flavor I get in so many stouts. Feels good swirling around my mouth, with a nice level of carbonation. Overall very good and possibly a little too drinkable!

One of the smoothest pints I’ve ever tried, both on tap and in a bottle. On tap it is like the finest silk is flowing down your throat. On your tongue it is creamy and full of great malty flavours. Coffee, roasted malt, and chocolate, they are all here! And in a nice delicate manner. In addition, the deeply layered and complex aftertaste can be savoured for ages. If you just sit there and think about it, you realize you’re drinking a world-class stout.
