Starts light, followed by the oatmeal, and finishes with toasty/burnt flavor; overall very smooth & enjoyably unobstrusive. HOPSHUNTER (376), Tampa, Florida, USA

A black beer with a thick, dense brown head this beer looks fantastic in the glass. Amazing roasted nose with lots of rich chocolate and coffee notes. Body is extremely thin and disappointing. Flavor is dry with a big roasted character with chocolate under tones and a slightly smokey presence. Finishes smooth and roasted. Davros (213), Australia
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jun 10, 2009 Almost jet black in colour, with a thick brown head that leaves lovely lacing.
Glorious aroma of sweet roasted malt, chocolate, hazelnuts, light coffee and subtle hops (noble?).
Flavours are mostly roasted malt and rolled oats, with some chocolate in the background. Solid roasted bitterness.
Full body with creamy carbonation. Very smooth! nate2g (1066), Brisbane, Australia

Aroma and flavour of coffee, chocolate, brown sugar and smoke. Smooth mouthfeel with a good lingering bitterness. Delicious stout. smcolw (327), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 24, 2009 Near mahogany color where no light can pass through. Beige head of two fingers to start. Slow settling into a rocky formation--spotty lace on the side of the glass.
Smells like chocolate pudding and ice cream. There’s some mocha in the background. I like that this is not an in-your-face aroma that many stouts have.
A lot more coffee in the taste--nearly no chocolate. Burnt toast, very dry! The finish features the introduction of some hop bitterness, but the black patent malt really comes through long after the swallow. This is a full beer with a slightly higher than expected level of carbonation.
If very dry, coffee-ish beers are your preference than this will be a clear winner. ksurkin (366), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 23, 2009 11.5oz bottle from grape & gourmet. pours a slightly thick, black color with a solid, cocoa powder brown head and excellent lacing. aroma is very nice with notes of dark chocolate, roasted, nutty malt, charcoal smoke, sweet cinnamon oatmeal, and a touch of coffee and an interesting bit of tulip. flavor is excellent with big, bitter dark chocolate up front, roast coffee, dark fruits, and toffee, with a smokey, bittersweet finish. palate is velvety smooth, medium bodied, with solid carbonation. overall, a very good brew. inkubus27 (246), Highland, Indiana, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | May 18, 2009 Bottle from a trade, I just can’t remember who it came from. Pours beautifully, black, appears thick and leaves a nice pillowy brown head. Aroma was very faint, and if anything I picked up a nutty aroma. Flavor falls short a bit, you can definitely tell the roasted malts, a bit of chocolate flavor. Seems pretty highly carbonated and has a very thin mouthfeel. A little too spritzy for a stout of any kind. Not bad for just a regular stout though, this definitely beats out Guiness or any other macro stouts. BroSpud (592), , Massachusetts, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 14, 2009 12oz screwtop. A good oatmeal stout if not a great one. Pours jet black with tastes of espresso and chocolate. Nothing over the top but perhaps that is what makes this so drinkable. Nice well balanced drinkable stout.
