Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

Bottle at tasting. Poured a really creamy brown with a large tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, oat, nut. Taste is smooth oat, with plenty of chocolate, some light roast coffee, and a little fruit. The mouth is smooth and the finish is a little hoppy. Overall, a good oatmeal stout.

At World Beer Festival in Raleigh NC, this fine oatmeal stout pours a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Tastes like an iced chocolate coffee. Solid mouthfeel on this stout as well. This is a beer I will likely buy more of to try in greater quantity.

330ml bottle. BB 31 Oct 2010 Opaque blakc body, dense orange tan head that hangs around. Muted aroma of coffee, cocoa, charcoal, liquorice and earthy spice. Creamy texture, moderate carbonation, medium body, Fair bit of grain astrigency. Plenty of roasted malts on the body; dark chocolate, coffee, liquorice, slight cereally grain quality. Finish is quite bitter with a lingering dryness. Solid sort of stout indeed.

Pours black with thin ruby highlights and a two finger rocky tan head that has great retention. Aroma is roast, oats, a little hardwood smoke, deark chocolate, light roast coffee, tobacco pipe smoke and roasted nuts. Flavor is lots of roast, roasted nuts, fantastic dark roast coffee, some char, hazelnut butter, toasted wood, dark caramel, light toffee, vanilla and some sweet straw. Finish is roast, toasted wood, cocoa, espresso, herbal and bitter hops. Palate is medium thickness, very smooth, creamy feel, nice light carbonation and a slightly oily finish. Fantastic stuff all around.

11.5 oz bottle. A very roasted and smoked aroma that i wasn’t exactly expecting. A good amount of chocolate, black coffee, and dark burnt grains, and butterscotch as well. Pour made a small but dense dark caramel cream head, rather thick looking body, with a dark coffee color. A good looking stout. Very full bodied flavor and feel for stout of this kind, especially for the abv. The feel of this beer is perhaps the best quality of it, as it goes down smooth with a full but not overly heavy creamy body that coats every part of the tongue and palate very nicely. Sadly, the flavors conveyed don’t quite do it for me. Too much roasted and smoky notes, and a prominent grassy/woody bitterness that is refreshing that it is there but does not seem to fit this beer well as it seems to create this medicinal taste that is slightly off to me. Some of the more standard notes in there like the black coffee and dark malts, butterscotch and milk chocolate are also in there as well. So really not a bad stout, it definitely has the framework of a high quality brew. It just didn’t quite get the job done for me to think this was truly a world class beer in its style.

WELL endowed coffee and cocoa flavors with a hint of vanilla and perhaps a honey like flavor in the mix. a bit on the watery and light side in comparison to some others of note. also lacking the abrasiveness of some of the more popular stouts of such as of late. a little hop like bitterness is evident particularly in the finish though i would like it to be more pronounced. a bit of a powdery character to it. good beer.

Put off at first by aroma but first sip my opinion was quickly changed. Pours nearly black, with small brown head. Reminds me of chocolate and coffee, similar to the coffee porter if anyone has had that. Pretty impressive overall.
