Commercial Description:
St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout consistently beats out international stouts in blind tastings and competitions. This intensely black ale carries strong hints of espresso and chocolate. The oatmeal contributes body and ensures a long-lasting mocha-coloured head. If you like stout, you will love St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout.

12oz bottle from Santa (Crizay). Pours a beautiful, rich, oily black leaving a thick and creamy khaki head. Sweet mocha, dark bitter chocolate, espresso grounds. Bitter on the palate. Bitter roasted malt. Bitter chocolate. Lots of bitterness with little to balance. Medium bodied with a lot of bitter astrigincy. Meh.

Malty, caskwood, chocolate, oatmeal and cream all, that in the aroma, bewitching black, choclately malty oatmeal tastea little drier than I thought, highly charged, but you can still feel the oatmeal slickness on your tongue,Very good for what it is, I prefer mine a little sweeter.

Pours to a luxurious chocolate brown hue topped with a creeping web of mocha lace. Aroma is all sturdy graham cracker crust and vanilla extract with bits of sweetened, old espresso and flavored milk. Sweet, but belying a body full of chunky, muscley malt character. Flavor doesn’t deliver on that suggestion, settling for mostly sweet milk, metallic cheap coffee, sugar, and sterile cherry fruitiness. Coffee tones tend to carry a soapy, overextracted quality. Hops tend to present vegetally and with bits of old citrus rinds. Non dairy graham crust peeks in again with a wink of odd, tangy sweetness in the mid palate. Palate is light to medium bodied; brittle, unsupported, loose. Cinnamon tinted oatmeal and some iron water in a lengthy, earthy finish full of minerals. Plenty of unlikeable qualities here, but none to any obscene degree. Fair enough.

Um....I’m gonna assume that this was a bad bottle and try again later. Super bitter and metallic. Pretty much undrinkable.

Pours deep brown with a tan head. Nose is rich with chocolate, molasses, a touch of coffee and roasted malts. The flavor is quite the same. Medium mouthfeel and dry finish.

Solid dark brown body, big brown head, turns into a lasting ring. Taste is creamy oatmeal with cocoa powder sprinkled on top and some roasty hop hints. The taste is good, but I’m not finding it as deep as other similar "light-bodied" stouts. I’d gladly take another bottle though :)

bottle courtesty of masonher (this one at least)..... pours a spritzy dark brown almost black with brown hues at the edges. not really much of a head, but some does accumulate towards the edges..... nose made up of sour lactose and chocolate malt, just a bit of roast..... flavors remain consistent but it’s that sourness that puts me off. mouthfeel was also pretty thin. lacks the robust flavor that i was expecting..... jeremy, did you give me an off bottle? bastard!!
