Loic99 (23), Luxembourg Aug 1, 2001 a perfect Stout. truly crafted with heart and passion. suberb 'roasted' barley taste, and great head! Gooner (136), Chatham, Ontario, Canada Apr 9, 2002 Smooth and hoppy. Nice hints of roasted coffee bean, bits of chocolate. This is definitely a Canadian classic. Wellington Iron Duke Strong Ale is another Canadian beer classic. Check out Creemore Springs urBock for another Canadian classic as well. jpknight22 (171), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA Dec 18, 2002 Updated: May 10, 2004Very thick pour with a milk chocolatey head that seems to last for days - one of the darkest beers I've had to date. Toasted hazelnut/toffee scented aroma with an awesome mouthfeel. Perfect carbonation for a stout (most tend to under-do it). This is definitely the best beer I've had in my tasting career to date. Special thanks to mr_kimchee for making the trade so I could experience this brew and make it my 100th rating!
Re-rating on 5/10/04: I'm about as convinced as I'm going to be that this is the absolute finest beer I've sampled to date, and it gets the perfect score from me. BobP (3), Quebec, Canada does not count Sep 9, 2004 I simply love this stout. Has been my favorite beer for many years now. The extra bitterness of this stout is something I quite enjoy. collieman (192), montreal, Quebec, Canada Jul 9, 2005 OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IS THIS THE BEST, MOST PERFECT LIQUID EVER PLACED IN A BOTTLE, OR WHAT?
Pours get black. Darker than any stout I’ve ever seen. Even a guinness shows a slight trace of clarity, a slight ruby touch when placed to the light, but not this one. Hold it up to the sun and you can see THE TINNYEST hint of red. It’s beautiful. Large bubble head with a slight coffie tintened bage head, not much lasting power, a bit strange for an oatmeal stout. Minutte carbonation, higher than a draught, but still very mild. Aroma is lovley. Black molasis, caromell, slight coffie tint. Body is perfect. SLight thickness rounded out by a tiny sandpaper like carbonation, and an overall uniquley stout smothness. Taste is amasing, domonant flavour is roasted barley, a healthy dose of medium bitter hop, accented by espresso, bunt toffie, hit of sweet ness, anise, and toasted almond. Aftertaste is, yup, you guessed it, Fenominal. Bitter hop coats the palate, toasted walnut, with a final dry touch and a coffie air returning up the throat. This beer is amasing. This beer is amasing. This beer is amasing. This beer is amasing. This beer is amasing. This beer is amasing. This beer is amasing. This beer is amasing. what else can be said. Oh yah, THIS BEER IS AMASING!!
