Commercial Description:
St-Ambroise Pale Ale is the brewery's flagship beer. Introduced in February 1989, it is a hoppy, amber, full-flavoured ale. In The Simon and Schuster Pocket Guide To Beer , beer critic Michael Jackson gave it three stars and described it as: "An outstanding ale... amber-red, clean and appetizing, with a very good hop character, from its bouquet to its long finish. Hoppy, fruity, and tasty all the way through."

Six-pack from the Beer Store. Pours nicely, a good creamy off-white head with an attractive orange body. Maltier and less hoppy than I expected from the aroma. A very good beer.

Pours a big frothy head that lasts. Pleasent sweet aroma. Tastes like a typical beer you would get at any old brew pub. May be consitered good by real beer buffs but this does not float my boat to the greatest degree.

St. Ambroise Pale Ale - This is a pretty mediocre pale ale by American standards. Not very memorable.

(340 ml bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/massachusetts/w target=blank>Julio’s Liquors) Pretty bland...Pours clear amber with about three fingers of biege head, kind of frothy and foamy. Aroma of caramel, vanilla and hops. Mouthfeel lightly prickly, fairly smooth except for some light pebbliness. Pretty heavy sheets and patches of lacing. Flavor is blander than aroma, a little bit of malt but it just seems muted. Some bitterness overlays and carries through finish. Light bitter aftertaste. Sort of a letdown compared to the Oatmeal Stout.

Stupid lost ratings. 11.5oz bottle, no date. Thanks to Eric (heemer77) for the bottle. Crystal clear amber orange with a 1/2 finger off white head, fading to a creamy ring after a minute. Metallic aroma with some caramel malts, raisins, and woody hops. Doesn’t seem very APA to me. Flavor continues much the same with the addition of some biscuity malt notes. Semi-dry finish with bitterness peaking at a 3. Moderate creamy carbonation with a medium body. Not too bad. My other rating was better.

Bronze-amber with decent head upon aggressive pour. Good retention. Caramel-cookie and honey malt with earthy/floral hops. Hint of lemon in a pleasant and mild finish. Aphoristically, English Pale Ale if not geographically.

Malty aroma with a sweet honeylike frutiness. Amber colored with a fairly thick head. Flavor is bitter, lightly metallic, not overly hopped. Mild haylike finish. Malty. Mild palate. Slightly dry on the finish.

Bottle: Deep orange pour with decent clarity and dense off white head. The aroma was a bit oxidized, metallic with a sweet bready malt hint. Not very inviting. Flavor had a creamy caramelized malt mild sweetness, but more toasted character. There’s only a touch of balancing bitterness but it seemed metallic. Kind of boring, and lacked hop depth.
