Commercial Description:
St-Ambroise Pale Ale is the brewery's flagship beer. Introduced in February 1989, it is a hoppy, amber, full-flavoured ale. In The Simon and Schuster Pocket Guide To Beer , beer critic Michael Jackson gave it three stars and described it as: "An outstanding ale... amber-red, clean and appetizing, with a very good hop character, from its bouquet to its long finish. Hoppy, fruity, and tasty all the way through."

The very best ’commercial’ Pale available in Ontario - punchy hops and fruity malts, in a clean package very much to the French Canadian taste. Would be extremely fine with Tarte Lapin for example. You almost have to know Quebec food to really get some of the beers which are great accompaniment (Belle Gueulle for example.)

(Bottle 34,1 cl) Courtesy of Sammy. Clear, amber golden with a handsome, dense, off-white head leaving some laces. Aroma of malt and a whiff of metal. Medium-bodied, lightly sweetish malt with a touch of caramel and a dry, lightly hoppy finish. Solid craftmanship without being overly sophisticated. 310807

Bottle. [Courtesy of Papsoe, another great session @ Papsoe] Small fizzy white head that mostly diminished. Spare lacework. Slight dark golden color. Aroma of floral, pine, dry hops feel, caramel, light notes of apricot and some fruit. Medium bodied with a dry texture and an average carbonation. Light bitter flavor with some sweetness. Very smooth and pleasing mouthful. Light dry and floral bitter finish that lasted. Very nice indeed. 31-08-2007

Tried this one in a taster pack of McAuslan products and I was very impressed. Lots of hops for a pale ale with a slightly bitter taste. Great beer.

An excellent execution of a pale ale: as hoppy as some IPAs, and without any cloying sweetness. Plus, the mouthfeel is gentle, which is hard to find on pale ales. This beer, and brewery, have a lot going for it. Cheers :-)

Small white head. Brown body with carbonation. Fruity mango hop aroma. Dry resiny fruity taste with herbal notes. Clean mouthfeel. Dry, fruity metallic aftertaste. Nice session beer. (0.341l draft at Hotel Europa, Montreal.)

341ml bottle. Pours a nice golden amber colour, with a medium head. The aroma is an enticing blend of good hops with some sweet malts. Wow, the taste is very nice, I’m impressed! The malts come up front, a little caramel, then they get over-powered by the floral hops, which add the bitter bite to the taste, then it finishes off with the malts again, almost fruity tasting, but I’m going to say more toffee-like, with a hint of bananas. The after taste is not all that bitter, but I can definitely still taste the hops. In the end a highly enjoyable, very tasty pale ale. Lots of flavour, with a medium body, this is a great beer from an amazing brewery. Top notch in my books.
