Commercial Description:
St-Ambroise Pale Ale is the brewery's flagship beer. Introduced in February 1989, it is a hoppy, amber, full-flavoured ale. In The Simon and Schuster Pocket Guide To Beer , beer critic Michael Jackson gave it three stars and described it as: "An outstanding ale... amber-red, clean and appetizing, with a very good hop character, from its bouquet to its long finish. Hoppy, fruity, and tasty all the way through."

12oz bottle, brought back from Montreal. BB 28 FEV 06. Served at 55.5°/13°C in my Duvel tulip. Pours reddish copper with a small, off white head. The beer coats the glass and leaves foam spattered around the edges. The aroma is caramel, earthy, spicy hops, fragrant. The flavor is light malt with a strong earthiness at first that turns into a mighty earthy, rye bread, slightly spicy, pine flavor and finishes moderately bitter with some mild citrus fighting it’s way along the earthy hops. A nice pale ale. The hops used are not my favorite.

A really nice alternative to the usual characteristics of American Pale Ales. Much more restrained in the hops and subtle. Very drinkable.

Bottle acquired in trade with boutip (thanks!). Poured a medium and slightly hazy amber color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of caramel, citrus, and somewhat fruity. Tastes of citrus, flowers and fruity. I found the tastes to be on the watery side with a thin body. Ligthtly sweet and very lightly bitter.

Une blonde avec trop d’arrère goût, trop acre, amer dès la première gorgé et reste longtemps en bouche.

Nice looking ale with a great aroma - fruity and hoppy. Very easy drinking - almost disturbingly so. Clean, slightly sweet with a strong character. A perfect summer brew. How I missed this one is a mystery to me. I will be putting this on my (ever growing) list of regulars.

[bottle] Almost clear orange-copper with a nice flanel blanket cover that clings to the glass. Fruity hops and raisiny caramel meld to form a very nice aroma that has just a touch of diacetyl. Citrus and dried fruit flavour in perfect balance with caramel and malt, ending with a pleasant, almost crisp bitterness, the fruit transcending it all. Medium body with medium carbonation.

Bottled. Lovely fruits aroma with apricot, apple and citrus. Oker/amber color, off-white head, good lace. Light sweet, fruity, well hopped, bitter finish. Although just 5% ABV still a little warming.

Bottle. Pours a sparkling amber-orange with an average size white head. Very nice colour but not enough head. Aroma of sweet malt, light hops, fruit and a touch of yeast. Flavour: Oh yeah! This is wonderful. I keep forgetting how great this beer is. Mildly sweet, light hops, citrus, lively carbonation, bitter finish. This is a top-notch ale and one of Canada’s best.
