Commercial Description:
St-Ambroise Pale Ale is the brewery's flagship beer. Introduced in February 1989, it is a hoppy, amber, full-flavoured ale. In The Simon and Schuster Pocket Guide To Beer , beer critic Michael Jackson gave it three stars and described it as: "An outstanding ale... amber-red, clean and appetizing, with a very good hop character, from its bouquet to its long finish. Hoppy, fruity, and tasty all the way through."

Really biscuity, hops give lychee and citrus, really well made pale ale.

Nice aroma of caramel malt and lightly floral, citrusy hops. Clear amber color with a thin white head. Only slightly bitter taste due to the hops. Fairly full flavor, but surprisingly light body with lively carbonation. Again, finish is a touch bitter. Tasted quite refreshing to me, but I think I’d enjoy it more in warmer weather.

Bottle. Clear golden orange pour with a fluffy off-white head that lasts a little while. Aroma is both hoppy and malty and has notes of caramel, pine, grass and honey. Flavour is similar: caramelly malt and herbal / grassy hops. Light to medium body, medium to high carbonation and a moderately long, dry finish. Not a bad APA but not particularly exciting either.

341 mL Bottle sampled Dec 23, 2009. Deep gold-orange body with a thin white foamy head. Light malt dominates in the aroma with notes of caramel, grass, and a phenolic character about it. Typical pale ale flavor; light malt followed by a hop bitter aftertaste and a treacle-like finish. I like the mouth feel but too, this is a personal opinion from an ale-head.

Bottle. Pours clear golden with a creamy white head. Aroma and flavour of sweet malt, caramel and fruity hops. Good carbonation. OK bitterness. A dull finish and slightly dry. It’s refreshing on a hot day.

Bottle from ye olde Porter bar. Pours a light yellow. Major characteristic here is a hop profile that I don’t particularly care for. One that includes a bunch of fusel and rubbing alcohol sort of flavors. Really pungent and strong aroma but the flavor is quite off putting. Not that it is a poorly made beer just that the hop profile is not my fave.

Bottle at the Faculty Club, University of Toronto, courtesy of MSF. Deep orange brown, with a small white head and great lacing. Aroma of pine nuts and orange peel. Bitter taste with a background of orange and coriander, with a bittersweet finish. Nice body. Very drinkable.

Bottle. Amber, off-white head. Fruity and hoppy nose - I couldn’t decide whether the hops were piney, grassy, floral or gooseberry-y. The nose is really quite restrained, but is complex and balanced. There’s a fair bit of malt sweetness with - again - nicely balanced and well-integrated hops. Slightly too sweet for my tastes. In a style where there are a lot of frank-bordering-on-direct beers, this is a diplomat.
