Commercial Description:
St-Ambroise Pale Ale is the brewery's flagship beer. Introduced in February 1989, it is a hoppy, amber, full-flavoured ale. In The Simon and Schuster Pocket Guide To Beer , beer critic Michael Jackson gave it three stars and described it as: "An outstanding ale... amber-red, clean and appetizing, with a very good hop character, from its bouquet to its long finish. Hoppy, fruity, and tasty all the way through."

It is a good everyday beer. Good bitter hop taste but a tiny metallic ending.

Bottle sample from distrbutor. Poured clear dark amber with an average frothy off-white head that diminished slowly and produced good lacing. Moderate hoppy citrus aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. Medium hoppy bitter flavor with a medium bitter finish of average duration. Good drinkable brew.

Small white head. Brown body with carbonation. Fruity mango hop aroma. Dry resiny fruity taste with herbal notes. Clean mouthfeel. Dry, fruity metallic aftertaste. Nice session beer. (0.341l draft at Hotel Europa, Montreal.)

Bottle. [Courtesy of Papsoe, another great session @ Papsoe] Small fizzy white head that mostly diminished. Spare lacework. Slight dark golden color. Aroma of floral, pine, dry hops feel, caramel, light notes of apricot and some fruit. Medium bodied with a dry texture and an average carbonation. Light bitter flavor with some sweetness. Very smooth and pleasing mouthful. Light dry and floral bitter finish that lasted. Very nice indeed. 31-08-2007

Bottle. 12 fl. oz. A light copper color with an off-white colored head. Nice longevity and decent lacing. Aromas of hops, light citrus, bread, and caramel malt. Light to medium bodied with fairly dry texture. Flavor is lightly sweet at first with a hoppy bitter middle and a lingering, dry, bitter end. The flavor is a little weak and never seems to fully develop, but I like this beer.

Tap. Clear golden with a good off-white head. Crisp aroma of grass, citrus and passion fruit, with some ESB-like caramel malt. The same notes return in the flavor, with the malts dominating. Could have used a little more hops. Sparkly carbonation, medium to light body. A little watery, the flavour isn’t full enough. Not very exciting, but enjoyable.
