COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St-Ambroise Pale Ale is the brewery's flagship beer. Introduced in February 1989, it is a hoppy, amber, full-flavoured ale. In The Simon and Schuster Pocket Guide To Beer , beer critic Michael Jackson gave it three stars and described it as: "An outstanding ale... amber-red, clean and appetizing, with a very good hop character, from its bouquet to its long finish. Hoppy, fruity, and tasty all the way through."

Pours dark yellow with medium head and lively carbonation. mix of cereal / fruity taste completed with great bitterness kick. very good American pale ale. probably the best one brewed in Québec. This is my everyday beer and it’s available everywhere in the province.

473 mL can to half-pint glass (shared with the Mrs.). Looks solid; a transparent caramelish orange with foamy off-white head. Smells and tastes of fruity and bitter hops with a bit of grain in the background. Average on the palate. Not bad.

341ml bottle from The Only Cafe. Amber/copper body with a thin off-white head. Pine, nuts and some caramel on the nose. Hops and nuts initially with roasted/ burnt flavor of malt lingers into the finish. Elevated pervieved bitterness. Alcohol is normal, very sessionable.

Pours crystal clear copper with an amber head. Sweet caramel and biscuity malt. Definitely more.of a malty pale ale. Some nuts. Some earthy and piney aromas. An okay pale. Quite sessionable.

Can. Medium tall rocky head over an amber body. Aroma of grainy malt and grassy hops. Initially caramel malt and fruity taste leads into a mildly bitter finish. Excellent

Aroma is of malts and some faint hops. Flavour of herbal hops, malts. Pretty well balanced pale ale.

Pours clear medium amber with two fingers of frothy off white head, decent retention and heavy lacing. Nose is herbal hops, roasted malt. Taste is caramel malt leading light grassy hops. Light to medium body, moderate sustained carbonation, and a sustained balanced bitter finish. A decently sessionable malt-forward APA with not much to distinguish it one way or another. Pleasant and easy-drinking, but without too much character.

I don’t drink these very often, and it’s certainly not the most interesting beer in their line, but it’s pretty solid for a plain old pale ale. Nose is pretty much all malt: light grain, caramel, a bit of roasted grain and nuts. There’s a faint ambiguous dryness on the nose, but no real hop character that I could discern. Taste starts out mostly light grain/bread, but there’s a a lovely roasted flavour, especially as it warms up. Finish has just a hint of dryness; more crisp than dry. Quaffable.

On tap at the brewery terrace as part of a 12$ tasting set. A clear copper with a filmy beige head. Bready grainy malt aroma, it also gained some caramel notes when it warmed up. Medium bodied with a round carbonation. Decent malty flavor with a crisp mildly bitter finish. Pretty good, their beers seem very malt forward and quite English. Ok.
