COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is Quebec’s tribute to the late 1700’s English Imperial Stouts, brewed for the Russian courts of Catherine the Great.
Made from a blend of barley malts, St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is infused with Cascade, Goldings and Willamette hops, resulting in an outstanding hop-character with a smooth finish. Bourbon wood-aged, this full-bodied ale has a rich, smoky aroma with hints of vanilla, expresso and chocolate.

Serve St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout between 13°C and 15°C, preferably in a port glass or a brandy snifter. This stout will improve with age for a number of years. Store in a cool, dark place.

Wowee, this is the impy for me. Not sure if was the focus on wood and tobacco more than chocolate and coffee (this has more tobacco aroma than any other beer I’ve tried), or finally an amount of soy sauce I can manage, or that inky viscosity, or slight whiskey feel in the background and finish, but this blew me away.

This is one of my favourite stouts. Poured into a glass, it is a rich black colour with a light brown head. The aroma is of wood, chocolate and coffee. The flavour is so creamy and rich, and tastes of chocolate! The flavour is the perfect mixture between sweet and bitter. Great beer! I picked up a few of these at the local depanneur and was not disappointed!

Bottle shared by Drew. Thanks! Pours a deep black with some translucency at the edges. Dark tan head. Nose is smoky and meaty, noted oak and vanilla. Light dark fruit and some cocoa notes. On tasting, it is ashy, smoke forward. Oddly dry and too roasty without some balance. The barrel contributes tannin and vanilla. Kind of all over the place and the smoke just mixes it all up. Nice to try but a bit thin overall.

Bottle shared by drewbeerme. Thanks, Drew! Pours a deep blackish hue, full bodied pour with a frothy brown head atop that dies to a firm layer, laces well. Healthy opaque body with some darker brownish edges around. Aromas are deep and roasty, chocolate and gentle ash hit the palate. Cocoa, caramel, a bit of wood and gentle spirit hit the nostrils. Toastiness, biscuits, and toffee. A full nose with a gentle dryness, gentle coffee and smoke elements really runs the whole gambit. Initial is fuller bodied, offering roast and smoke, toastiness and a full body. Gentle oak creeps in, bit of spirit, toffee and toast. Caramel, some toastiness and smoked wood. Gentle dryness, richer coffee and cocoa elements at times. Really well put together, backend shows some dryness, firm smokiness, and oak elements. Really lingers well and quite the memorable brew.

Bottle shared by Drew, thanks! Pours black with a dark brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a combination of roasted malts with a bit of bourbon and wood with a bit of smoke. Flavor has a combination of roasted malts and ashy smoke with a hint of bourbon.
