COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is Quebec’s tribute to the late 1700’s English Imperial Stouts, brewed for the Russian courts of Catherine the Great.
Made from a blend of barley malts, St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is infused with Cascade, Goldings and Willamette hops, resulting in an outstanding hop-character with a smooth finish. Bourbon wood-aged, this full-bodied ale has a rich, smoky aroma with hints of vanilla, expresso and chocolate.

Serve St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout between 13°C and 15°C, preferably in a port glass or a brandy snifter. This stout will improve with age for a number of years. Store in a cool, dark place.

Black pour, 2 fingers of head that hung around for awhile. Lacing all the way down the glass. Aroma of wood, dark chocolate, coffee, light note of bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts. Roasted malt, slight hint of bourbon, wood, dark chocolate, fresh coffee beans, some alcohol, vanilla, fairly bitter. Full bodied and lower carbonation. Give it an hour to warm up - delicious. Cellaring 6 and can;t wait to revisit this one over the next 6 years!

Bottle from K&G. Full marks. Aromas of rum, chocolate, vanilla. Taste is sweet and bitter, with long length. Palate is syrupy and full bodied. Black, with a frothy off-white head.

Pitch, 100% opaque, completely black black with no head - that is insane body. Aroma of roasted malt, anise, licorice, pit fruits, metal and a hint of oak. Full-bodied; Strong roasty flavour with a noticeable amount of hops, vanilla, oak, bourboun, raisins, toffee and a lot of licorice noticeable. Aftertaste shows a good complexity wiht a lot of sugars at first followed by a lot of malt and complex spices. Finished by a very viscous body and a spicey finish with tons of flavour. Overall, a very nice imperial stout aged on oak with a smooth side, but the complexity reigns here - a great beer and definitely should be sampled if you can find it! Beer #2 of my 4000rating extravaganza (of 9 total). I sampled this 12 ounce bottle purchased from Au Coin Duluth in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on 04-Decmeber-2010 for CA$7.99 sampled at home in Washington when Detroit won Game 7 of the 1st round in the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs over Anaheim on 12-May-2013.

Deep black body, large dark chocolate head, spotty lacing. Bourbon, oak, roast, chocolate, mellow coffee, and earthy hops. Layered with a nice range of flavors. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation, a nice gentle finish, quite pleasant to drink.

Bouteille 341ml,9.2%ABV. 2012.

Bottle - 2011, thanks Sebastien! Pours inky opaque black with a small dark brown creamy head that slowly dissipates with great lacing. Aroma is dark roasted malt, light bourbon, dark chocolate, wood, vanilla, coffee. Flavor is the same, smoky and rich with light sweetness, medium bitterness, some woody astringence. Full bodied and tongue coating. It is obvious this stout has been in wood, but the bourbon notes are pretty restrained. Pretty darned tasty.

341 ml bottle. Sinister black with a creamy tan head leaving lacy tendrils. Nose is dark fruit, chocolate, coffee bean and light smoke. Velvety mouthfeel with tiny carb pricks getting ashy with a hoppy bite. Taste is equally as balanced and nuanced as the aroma. Chocolate, espresso, caramel, smoke and raisin. Delicious.

Pours pitch black with a large, creamy dark tan head. Nose shows liqourice, alcohol, sweet coffee liqueur, heavy roast, bready malt and coconut. Decadent flavour. Soft roasted malt, cocoa, sweet malt, coconut and oak with a little bourbon and booze as well. Nice creamy carbonation and slick body.

341 ml, 9.2%, 2012. Noire, peu de mousse beige-brune. Le goût de bois est très dominant. Amertume assez prononcée. Pas ma tasse de thé. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
