COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is Quebec’s tribute to the late 1700’s English Imperial Stouts, brewed for the Russian courts of Catherine the Great.
Made from a blend of barley malts, St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is infused with Cascade, Goldings and Willamette hops, resulting in an outstanding hop-character with a smooth finish. Bourbon wood-aged, this full-bodied ale has a rich, smoky aroma with hints of vanilla, expresso and chocolate.

Serve St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout between 13°C and 15°C, preferably in a port glass or a brandy snifter. This stout will improve with age for a number of years. Store in a cool, dark place.

I’m not really one for imperial stouts so won’t be getting this one again but you can definitely taste the espresso and chocolate flavours in here. If that’s your thing then go for it.

Thanks Tommy for this one. 2012 bottle: Dark black body with brown cocoa head and nice lacing. Aroma of bourbon and roasted malts. Taste is rich, kind of sharp even, very bitter dark chocolate aftertaste. Really nice RIS.

Bottle from Canada courtesy of Ellen & Malcolm. Inky black with a good tan head. Lots of rich bitter coffee and chocolate flavour, the coffee coming through really strongly in the finish. Very little initial sweetness, and it could do with some more to be really top class. The alcohol is pretty well hidden. A little spiciness too. tasty, but not the best imp I’ve ever had.

Black with a foamy light coffee top. Vanilla, woods, bourbon, black chocolate, great aroma! Nice bitterness in the taste. Well rounded, slick and not too carbonated. A great brew

341ml (lol) bottle into a snifter on Canada Day. 2011 vintage. Pours a pitch black body with a dark khaki head. Nose is roasted malts, bakers chocolate, light anise and espresso with a lovely vanilla sweetness. Taste is big roasty malts and chocolate malts with a little vanilla sweetness and some dry oak on the finish, The barrel isn’t very noticeable but this is a damn tasty beer. Thick and coating mouth feel. This can really run with some of the best American RIS’s, probably even beat most of them too.
