COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is Quebec’s tribute to the late 1700’s English Imperial Stouts, brewed for the Russian courts of Catherine the Great.
Made from a blend of barley malts, St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout is infused with Cascade, Goldings and Willamette hops, resulting in an outstanding hop-character with a smooth finish. Bourbon wood-aged, this full-bodied ale has a rich, smoky aroma with hints of vanilla, expresso and chocolate.

Serve St-Ambroise Russian Imperial Stout between 13°C and 15°C, preferably in a port glass or a brandy snifter. This stout will improve with age for a number of years. Store in a cool, dark place.

Pours pitch black with a small creamy mocha head. Aroma is heavy in chocolate with some coffee and vanilla scents, alongside a slight caramel and buttermilk undertone. Taste is rich and sweet up front with a lingering dry bitterness. Full bodied, subtle carbonation and a creamy mouth feel. Overall an amazing imperial stout, would love to have this one again.

Deep black body, large dark chocolate head, spotty lacing. Bourbon, oak, roast, chocolate, mellow coffee, and earthy hops. Layered with a nice range of flavors. Medium to full bodied, moderate carbonation, a nice gentle finish, quite pleasant to drink.

Bouteille 341ml,9.2%ABV. 2012.

Bottle - 2011, thanks Sebastien! Pours inky opaque black with a small dark brown creamy head that slowly dissipates with great lacing. Aroma is dark roasted malt, light bourbon, dark chocolate, wood, vanilla, coffee. Flavor is the same, smoky and rich with light sweetness, medium bitterness, some woody astringence. Full bodied and tongue coating. It is obvious this stout has been in wood, but the bourbon notes are pretty restrained. Pretty darned tasty.

341 ml bottle. Sinister black with a creamy tan head leaving lacy tendrils. Nose is dark fruit, chocolate, coffee bean and light smoke. Velvety mouthfeel with tiny carb pricks getting ashy with a hoppy bite. Taste is equally as balanced and nuanced as the aroma. Chocolate, espresso, caramel, smoke and raisin. Delicious.

Pours pitch black with a large, creamy dark tan head. Nose shows liqourice, alcohol, sweet coffee liqueur, heavy roast, bready malt and coconut. Decadent flavour. Soft roasted malt, cocoa, sweet malt, coconut and oak with a little bourbon and booze as well. Nice creamy carbonation and slick body.

Acquired in a trade last year. 2011 Vintage. deep midnight black, 3 finger coffee coloured creamy head, very big sticky lacing. smells like cocoa beans and almonds. Very sweet taste, very bitter sort of piney with a hint of raisin. Licorice and butterscotch. interesting, pretty complex.

341 ml, 9.2%, 2012. Noire, peu de mousse beige-brune. Le goût de bois est très dominant. Amertume assez prononcée. Pas ma tasse de thé. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Wowee, this is the impy for me. Not sure if was the focus on wood and tobacco more than chocolate and coffee (this has more tobacco aroma than any other beer I’ve tried), or finally an amount of soy sauce I can manage, or that inky viscosity, or slight whiskey feel in the background and finish, but this blew me away.
