Commercial Description:
Also known as St.Ambroise Millésimée.

In honour of our tenth anniversary, McAuslan Vintage Ale has been brewed to continue the centuries-old tradition of strong ales and barley wines. Vintage Ale is rich and malty, with a surprisingly well balanced and clean hop finish provided by classic Goldings hops. The ale is unfiltered and derives its orange hue from wheat malt blended with pale and Munich malts. The malts also provide a hints of caramelized fruit reminiscent of a Christmas pudding.
McAuslan Brewing will celebrate each new year by brewing Vintage Ale on our anniversary. As a vintage product, we estimate this ale will remain in good condition for a number of years.
The 2006 edition is down from 9.4% to 9.2%. In 2007 this went to 8%. In 2009 this went to 9.8%.

Courtesy jayMFg. Pours a hazy, dark orange-amber color. A bubbly, off-white head leaves behind sugary, sudsy lacing that mostly rejoins the body. The aroma shows sweet caramel, a hint of cooked, cinnamon spiced apples, and moderate floral hop bitterness. A touch of toffee emerges in the flavor, joining the sweet caramel and the light, fruity hoppiness and a twangy apple cider element. This one is definitely unique. The body is medium-full and lightly syrupy. Finishes with a bit of lingering alcoholic heat. Pretty solid, but not outstanding.

2001- Caramel colored. Head had bubbles at the rim only. Heavy malt nose. Excellent, wonderful malt. Alcohol well hidden. Good apple pie with good doughiness.

20071025 341 ml bottle, 2006 vintage. Initial impression is a reminder of Cooper’s Vintage ale, which I also didn’t like. Sweet smelling to a noticeable degree and with a cloying, sugary taste. Juicy fruit gum and a bit minty and medicinal. Weird and generally not good. Not very drinkable. yikes...I should find an 07 or 01 bottle, from the looks of things.

*2001* vintage courtesy of Footbalm. Thanks Eric! To think this was made when I was just graduating high school makes me smile. Very pretty pour into my Brooklyn Brewery snifter. Deep reddish brown with a sudsy white head. Carbonation still hissing away. Upon intiial smell, no signs of infection and only some mild oxidation. Nose is strong caramel, toffee, some earthy soil, hops, dark fruits. Flavor is sweet, smooth, and creamy. More caramel malt, some mild oxidation, more toffee and earthy notes. Alcohol pretty well hidden after all these years (says on the bottle that it is 9.6%). Very nice beer here--I don’t know shit but I think this vintage may have hits its peak a year or two ago. Anyway, I am ecstatic to be able to try a well-aged bottle of this. Thanks again, Eric. You’re awesome and you know it.

2007 - Orange body, some yeast particles floating, light but present fawn coloured head which is easily refreshed with a quick swirl of the glass. Aroma: Oranges, mango, some bitter hops, slight peppery nose too. Flavour; Definite initial toffee flavour, fruity too with pineapple & grapefruit jelly and the smallest hint of coriander, long slightly boozy finish, I too would like to try this with some age on it, but overall a very good beer.

2007 Bottle from HogtownHarry! Nose of pluots, a small amount of brown sugar, and some flowery hops; Pale amber with a small beige head; flavor of light, but pleasant, hop bitterness, plums, light sweetness, and peppery spices; finish is a bit of bitter and a tiny bit of alcohol warmth.
