Commercial Description:
Also known as St.Ambroise Millésimée.

In honour of our tenth anniversary, McAuslan Vintage Ale has been brewed to continue the centuries-old tradition of strong ales and barley wines. Vintage Ale is rich and malty, with a surprisingly well balanced and clean hop finish provided by classic Goldings hops. The ale is unfiltered and derives its orange hue from wheat malt blended with pale and Munich malts. The malts also provide a hints of caramelized fruit reminiscent of a Christmas pudding.
McAuslan Brewing will celebrate each new year by brewing Vintage Ale on our anniversary. As a vintage product, we estimate this ale will remain in good condition for a number of years.
The 2006 edition is down from 9.4% to 9.2%. In 2007 this went to 8%. In 2009 this went to 9.8%.

LCBO $4ish. Light hoppy aroma. Nice orange colour with white head. Was surprised by the taste as this is down as a barley wine. Very hoppy and bitter dry like an ESB with only a hint of barley wine. Reminded me of the Rogue Brutal Bitter I had the day before. I was disappointed with it especially given the price they charge.

Really big offwhite lasting head. Hazy dark brown body. Fruity alcoholic toffeeish malty aroma, mild and delicate. Dry-sweet intensely fruity toffeeish caramelly taste with tobaccoish roasty notes. Tastes like it has oxidized a little. Bittter fruity toffeeish aftertaste. Very nice, and probably even better fresh. (0.341l bottle traded from glouglouburp. 2006 vintage.)

2006 Bottle from Francois_Mtl, a really great trader and person. Tried with WeeHeavy, CynAmber color. A little bit of sour. A small hint of oxidation. A little dry. Some malty notes. I think this bottle is not aging well. Maybe it has a small bacterial infection. 3.2-3.3. Probably need to try it again someday.

2007 bottle. Poured a clear orange coler with a nice white head. Aroma was heavy on the hops and the hops made themselves known in the flavor as well. Lots of subtle fruit undertones but he first thing I thought of was a bit of a pale ale. A very good pale ale.

2006 bottle. Poured murky orange amber, with a moderate sized tan head. Aroma was sweet malt, with butterscotch, hops and apricot. Big, malty body, with apricot, caramel and hops. Alcohol makes itself evident in the finish. Great beer.

2006. Provided by kmweaver. Hazy golden body with a small off-white head. The nose is rich toffee, brown sugar, raisins and light spice. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter with caramel, golden raisins, fruit juice and light citrus. Medium/full body is very soft with light carbonation.

Rating #1200. 12oz bottle, 2006 vintage, courtesy of radiomgb. Thanks, Jeff! Pours a clear, bright orange-amber color; off-white head with fine-bubbled lacing. Pleasant amounts of candy sugar, caramel, and dried fruits in the aroma; a solid malt core with some citrus. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: very chewy dried red fruits, caramel, and a minimal show of warming alcohol; some slight citrus bitterness, but mostly just citrus; fruity and reasonably dense. Lengthy, caramel and dried red fruits in the finish; a bit of dough.

2007 vintage on "clearance" at the NSLC. Nice amber color and small head that sticks around. Faint caramel flavor, but overpowered by the hoppiness. Am picking up another to tuck away for a while.
