Atop it sits a medium-large deep beige head. The aroma is quite fruity and sweet, showing notes of apple, plum, pear, honey, dry chocolate, peach, toffee and some sticy malt. Taste is toffee, sticky & chewy apples, apple syrup, light grains, hints of roasted malt, plums, prunes, sweet fermented red grapes, tangerine, and some light alcohol in the upper nose and mouth. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, finishes with some bitter toffee, sweet malty syrup, and more fruit. Very nicely aged barleywine, not showing a whole lot of oxidization at this point (2006). A pleasure to drink, and one of the highlights of the evening. A great way to break the Lenten alcohol fast for me. Beautiful mahogany color with even more crimson than on many of the others. Notes of orange, honey, tangerine, citron, toffee, butter mingle together. Reminded me a bit of Sam Adams Millenium. Excellent, and a real treat. Thanks to MartinT who provided this to Noah (htsprint1), who then brought it over for us to enjoy. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA

Raisins, brown sugar, wood, and lots of sweetness, laced with that familiar flavor of a vintage beer. A little sharp on the edge, but not super thick of palate. Really solid, though I didn’t rave about this as others did this night. Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA

Tawny brown body with almost no head, just spotty islands of bubbles. Taste-earthy, cereal, roasted marshmallow, brown sugar like sweetness.
