Commercial Description:
Also known as St.Ambroise Millésimée.

In honour of our tenth anniversary, McAuslan Vintage Ale has been brewed to continue the centuries-old tradition of strong ales and barley wines. Vintage Ale is rich and malty, with a surprisingly well balanced and clean hop finish provided by classic Goldings hops. The ale is unfiltered and derives its orange hue from wheat malt blended with pale and Munich malts. The malts also provide a hints of caramelized fruit reminiscent of a Christmas pudding.
McAuslan Brewing will celebrate each new year by brewing Vintage Ale on our anniversary. As a vintage product, we estimate this ale will remain in good condition for a number of years.
The 2006 edition is down from 9.4% to 9.2%. In 2007 this went to 8%. In 2009 this went to 9.8%.

hazy peach amber pour. great caramel malt aroma, some fruit and an alcohol twinge. first mouthful is boozy with straight caramel malts and hops. only complaint is that its a little overhopped, the bitterness take away from the rich malty character that I love in Barley Wines

2007 vintage. Pours a hazy dark amber with a decently sized white head. Aroma is quite nice, holding caramel, plum, clove, and a boozy quality as well. Flavor is a bit different, with a wheaty and bready malt quality. It is slightly overhopped, with a bitter and acidic quality that I do not care for in barleywines. Still pretty tasty overall, but could use some perfecting in the recipe.

2007 Vintage poured into a snifter. Peachy amber pour with small head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, fruity esters and some dark fruits. Slight boozy feel as well. Flavor is sweet with some toasty malt and a grapefruit hop backbone. Palate is full with caressing carbonation and a semi-dry finish. Perhaps a bit over hopped for the style, taking away from the complexities and powers of the malt profile.

Oxidation, slightly, caramel malt, dull, earthy hops, and really clean. Taste is caramel, cardboard oxidation, dull hops, clean as hell, citrus hoppiness. Appearance is clear, clear, clear, with amber waves of grain; or something. Finish is slightly cloying, dull hoppiness. This is not that complex. Good flavors, and did I mention this is clean? Simple, but good.

2009 vintage. Clear orangey amber body with decent head on the pour but didnt last long. Noticeable alcohol on the nose along with some notes of dark fruits. Taste is similar, though seems fairly light, alcohol is not so much of a statement.

2008 Edition. Plenty of apricots and good hop presence. Surprisngly good mouthfeel for a vintage ale. Just never really stood out to me. Pleasant but not exceptional.

2007 Vintage brought back from Montreal. Pours a gorgeous apricot color with a white head. Smells predominatly of sherry. Starts hot on the palate, but red grapes, caramel, and the suprising flavor of grape skittles comes to the rescue. Quite a sleeper.
