8/01/2009: St. Ambroise Vintage Ale 2009... Aroma: Toffee maltiness, brown sugar, deep citrus. Appearance: Deep honey color, somewhat hazy, lasting frothy beige head. Flavor: Floral hoppiness, citrus, thick toffee maltiness, moderatly sweet. Palate: Medium-full body, smooth, slightly sticky. Overall: Very good, would probably improve even more with some more age.

Small hints of oxidation are undeniable. Taste of wet cardboard fades inevitably into viscous and chewy malts. Cinnamon bread soaked in caramel, laced with molasses. Fairly predictable aside from an outside hint of sweet corn. Warmth gently melts away the rough edges. Palate is quite full, and polished. Although the impact of age leaves this one somewhat tired, it seems to suggest a timeless quality. Thanks for sharing, Eric!

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 20, 2008 Bottle, 2007. Malt aromas of moderate roasted and caramel, hops of perfume and orange, light dough for the yeast, with notes of dried apricot and wine. Head is average sized, creamy, white, with fair lacing and fully diminishes. Color is murky orange/tan. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, and finishes lightly sweet and acidic and has a long moderately bitter aftertaste. Palate is medium to full. The texture, which was is the best part of this beer, is both oily and syrupy. It has a soft carbonation and finishes lightly astringent. A nice beer with all the atributes of a classic Barley Wine. The slightly unpleasant aftertaste lowered the overall score a bit. Weedking4 (33), Stratford, Ontario, Canada

Alc.% is well hidden, fairly easy to drink. More of a malty taste then the hops. Pretty solid beer overall, considering the 9.8%. Very solid. BeerChaser0078 (391), Melbourne, Australia
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Aug 12, 2009 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a beige head that quickly decreases to a ring around the top with no lacing. The nose is strong and enticing with honey, wood and a hint of fruitiness. It is fairly dry on the palate with flavours of burnt toffee, whiskey, malt and spice. Alcohol is quite noticeable. Very enjoyable however and I imagine it may improve with a couple of years aging to be an absolute showstopper. 21iceman40 (1731), vienna, West Virginia, USA

Just a has some big ass malts and stuff in it makin a strong bw without the really traditional bw flavor. Earlier Rating: 11/10/2003 Total Score: 3.4 an orange and cloudy look with an aroma of sour metal, has a blandish fruit juicee feel to it, actually if they made raison juice this is what is would taste like. argo0 (7047), Washington DC, USA

Aroma is sweet, cherry, melon, orange, caramel, brown sugar. Taste is sweet, cherry, orange, melon, some alcohol, caramel, light earthy. Watery full body. Seems like it’s showing its age a bit, but still a delicious brew. Earlier Rating: 5/19/2003 Total Score: 3.8 Medium beige head topping an opaque caramel body. Aroma is lovely sweet and sticky, butterscotch, cherry, malty. Flavor is cherry malty, quite sweet. Alcohol gives a nice belly warming. wnp22 (682), Toronto (Roncesvalles Village), Ontario, Canada
