Commercial Description:
Also known as St.Ambroise Millésimée.

In honour of our tenth anniversary, McAuslan Vintage Ale has been brewed to continue the centuries-old tradition of strong ales and barley wines. Vintage Ale is rich and malty, with a surprisingly well balanced and clean hop finish provided by classic Goldings hops. The ale is unfiltered and derives its orange hue from wheat malt blended with pale and Munich malts. The malts also provide a hints of caramelized fruit reminiscent of a Christmas pudding.
McAuslan Brewing will celebrate each new year by brewing Vintage Ale on our anniversary. As a vintage product, we estimate this ale will remain in good condition for a number of years.
The 2006 edition is down from 9.4% to 9.2%. In 2007 this went to 8%

341ml Bottle: 2007 edition, found a surprise couple bottles at an LCBO that wasn’t promising any on their site. Pours a great deep brown and orange colour, quite a substantial foamy head. The aroma is strong and enjoyable, a burst of alcohol with notes of fruit and spice to be found: plum, grape, and caramel come to mind. The flavour is very, very hoppy and bitter; not as balanced I would have hoped, with some of the caramel and fruits to be found. I hate to slag on a 99 but my guess is it can stand some more time in the tube. Thankfully I bought a second and I’ll have to revisit this some time down the road.

Bottle, 2007. Malt aromas of moderate roasted and caramel, hops of perfume and orange, light dough for the yeast, with notes of dried apricot and wine. Head is average sized, creamy, white, with fair lacing and fully diminishes. Color is murky orange/tan. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, and finishes lightly sweet and acidic and has a long moderately bitter aftertaste. Palate is medium to full. The texture, which was is the best part of this beer, is both oily and syrupy. It has a soft carbonation and finishes lightly astringent. A nice beer with all the atributes of a classic Barley Wine. The slightly unpleasant aftertaste lowered the overall score a bit.

2007bottle drank aug 16 quite enjoyable. Very nice fruitiness and hops on the nose. Both of these features came out in the flavour also. Quite impessed with the numerous flavours that emerged. Fruitness of perhaps plums, solid hoppiness to give it some bite and a caramel like sweetness. decent mouthfeel. I like it.

2007 Vintage; tasted July 30, 2008: Many thanks to Stine for this one! Copper color with a medium head. Light floral and hop spice aroma. A good amount of caramelly malt sweetness. That ramps up a bit in the flavor. Some toasted malt as well, and bread. Light earthy hop. Very tasty.
