VeloVampire (374), Parkdale, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Mar 25, 2008 341 m bottle, 2007 vintage - pours a lovely, hazy dull orange, giving it the appearance of a glass of apricot jam. Very nice thick cream head with good retention and lacing. Beautiful aroma of fresh juicy citric hops, some Italian plum, raspberries, and floral notes. A bit of booze, too. I just want to smell this forever. Boozy and a bit rough around the edges in the mouth, but there are some underlying flavours here that show great potential for aging. More of the same as the aroma, but with some hints of pepper and mint. Bitter finish. I really look forward to aging the 2 bottles I have left - I think this will come together superbly in a year or two, but even this young, it is still quite good.
Bockyhorsey (1914), Mesa, Arizona, USA Jun 30, 2008 Catching up on backlog. Sampled at Hellbilly’s Hellraiser II. Got written down bready aroma sweet fruity flavor, malty. Give 3 something. hellbilly (768), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Jun 21, 2008 2007 bottle sampled with the phoenix crew courtesy of rustychiles. pale honey color with a small off white head. smells like it will be really sweet.... honey, pale malt, orange, earth and light spicy hops. the palate is on the sweet side but not nearly as the aroma... flavors of honey, toffee, spices, light pine, grass, earthy hops, fruit and slight oxidation (not off putting at all. akin to aged sherry). a little thin in the mouth feel but that could be a good thing given how sweet it is. seems more like an old ale in flavor than a bw?... SuperDave70 (641), Arizona, USA Jun 4, 2008 Sampled at Hellbilly’s Hellraiser II. Thanks Rusty! Caramel colored pour with a small white head. Pretty straightforward aroma of sweet malt, hops and some fruit. Sweet malty flavor fading into a bit of a hoppy bite. Good. Sparky27 (413), Phoenix, Arizona, USA May 27, 2008 Sampled at Hellbilly’s Hellraiser II. Bottle courtesy of Rustychiles. Pours a clear amber with almost no head. Nose is hops up front with a sweet malt background. Palate is the opposite – malt upfront with a mellow hop bite in the finish. Medium mouth feel. Decent Barleywine. rustychiles (362), Mesa, Arizona, USA May 26, 2008 Bottle shared at Hellbillys Hellraiser II.
Pours an amber color with a small white head. Aroma of barley, malt, hops. Flavor of malt, and hops. Nice palate. Pretty good barleywine.
