Bottle. Almost clear on the glass, golden in color and with a finger-thick off-white head. The aroma has a faint yeasty touch, with yellow plums, some citrus and pale malts. It’s medium-bodied and pleasantly carbonated, semi-sweet on the palate, with yeast, pale malts, white sugar and a generic fruityness in the flavor. Pretty yeasty finish, still the bitterness dominates. Certainly not interesting this one, the yeast is way too present. 140118

33 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Carrefour. A budget price abbey beer (an abhorrent nonsensical concept dreamed up by proficient marketers that haunts the Belgian beer landscape like a rotting corpse – this referring to abbey beers and not budget beers). BBF 14/11/2014. Pours an almost clear amber with a small unappetizing greyish off-white looking head. It smells heavily of nearly phenolic esters mixed slightly cellar musty grains and thick sticky warm grandmother toffee candy. Taste is upfront the concentrated of taste old warm sticky grandparents toffee candy, sticky unpleasant sugar, BE yeast, it is a bit much even by Belgian standards but I can imagine some people quite digging this, the taste than follows over into hollow malts, slight bitter ester, lingering plastic flavour, metallic hints, the whole is a touch watery, think of sparkling mineral water and such is the body a bit as well. There is nothing here that I could objectively complain about but it is a bit like licking clean the previously describe dish of candy, no technical flaws but overall a best a cheap abbey beer for those who glorify Leffe. The market distinction of this beer being and the appeal to the target group being clear as day. One could call it quaff-able.
