A Mes rate:
Cask at Baker Street ’Spoons. Hazy copper with a white-ish head. Aroma of fruit and malt. More of the same in the flavour with a bitter finish. Boring as hell but nothing offensive.

Cask, Red Barn, Woolacombe. Copper with a thin off-white foam. Aromas are toffee and molasses with roast notes and herbal liquorice. Plummy fruitiness with bready yeast. Flavours are sweet raisins with burnt toffee and cream. Fruity and hoppy on the finish with lemon and leaf. Well put together.

’Pint of LSD, please’. Cask handpull, Driftwood Spars, Trevaunance Cove, Cornwall (numerically my 3,000th). Chestnut with a thin white slick. Faint berry fruit, almond and sensible hop aroma. Rich and almondy; sweet with a clashing bitterness and nothing to back it up; hints of pecan, varnish, too much almond. Not my thing at all.

Cask. For a cask I guess this head is high creamy off-white and long lasting. Clear dark brown body. Weak berries caramel aroma. Flavor mild round relatively sweet caramel fruityness but with far more bitterness than expected. Low carbonation, long bitter aftertaste.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DonMagi (5598) - bantervile, Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 4, 2005
Wetherspoon beer festival. I normally dont think much of ESB’s however this was quite a turn around. Aroma is complex nutty malt, with some slight sweetness. Taste is also very complex for a cask bitter, with the malty nuttyness playing with some dark port and finishing with a long fruity finish. Excellent ale and i hope we start getting more of it in soon.
