3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pint on tap in the Red Fox pub, St Petersburg, Russia. Much darker beer than I’d usually go for but a real winter warmer. Malt and fruit notes but enough hops detectable to keep this IPA lover happy. Lovely deep red colour and mouth feel. No spirity aftertaste which is so common in stronger ales. Rancid hangover this morning after 3 pints though. Caution advised!

dark copper beer - with thick white head. Flavour is malty sweetness with a peaty whiskey aspect to the finish. Fine but not a big fan of the whiskey after-taste

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Copper brown beer with beige head leaving a permanent ring on top of the beer and lacing on the glass. Aroma is not very strong this cold, but there’s nuts, wood, sweet malts and hops. The taste is is malty sweet, earthy and herbal. I’m guessing it’s a brown ale but I’m told it’s a whisky barrel aged old ale, not that far guessed. The taste has licoricy notes, saltiness and some vanilla with a liqueur kind of a finish. It’s a versatile beer but not really what I like to drink.
