COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned.
NOTE: This is an entirely different beer to the the Smugglers Ale launched in 2006 and now discontinued.
A very special bounty indeed, Smugglers is a unique blend of dark ale and oak-aged barley wine. This strong beer is brewed and racked into oak whisky casks before being hidden away in our cellars. During its long slumber the beer undergoes an extraordinary transformation, emerging rich and complex with hints of whisky, creamy vanilla, toffee and spice.
A blend of oak aged barley wine and dark ale brewed from natural Cornish spring water, Maris Otter pale ale malt, Crystal and Roasted malts, dark brewing sugar, First Gold, Fuggle, and Styrian Golding hops, coriander and our own Brewer’s yeast.

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Festival 2013. Reddish brown colour, moderate off-white head. Strong and fairly complex aroma of malts, fruit cake, whisky cask, vanilla and fortified wine. The flavour is malty and oaky, not too sweet, notes of whisky, also some spicy notes (probably the coriander). Will buy again when I find a bottle.

Bottle. Pours clear dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of toasted bread, caramel and liqourice. Starts with toffee and roasted nuts and finishes with a coffee note, Fizzy carbonation with a slightly oily palate. Nice, but has some watery phases.

bottle, nice work by mowbeer bringing this back from munich. woddy shade of brown with a modest, uneven head; slightly mealy-mouthed texture, suggestions of porridge and golden syrup with some plain flour in the finish. still, more pleasant than that may sound

Ekelhaft!

500ml bottle. Clear reddish dark amber colour with small to average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, moderately lacing, off-white head. Minimally grainy, minimally toasty fruity aroma has notes of red and dark berries, grapes. Taste is initially minimally dry grainy, then hints of chocolate and fruit come in, a dry, husky, metallic note flashes up right before the finish; the finish is minimally dry with resemblance to fruit parings.
