I’ve had it in bottle before but it hasn’t been as good as this cask at the Pen and Wig. There’s a nice floral and malty aroma to the beer, smells like a fresh pint of bitter, nothing particularly special but very fresh and pleasant. The taste is light, with a maltiness and crystal malt sweetness that grows up slowly and then hits dry. In the meantime, all these floral hops dance in your mouth, with some subtle fruit present. Very much recommended as a session beer.

Cask at New Britannia, Preston. Pours amber with a thin white head. Malty aromas, caramel and a hint of floral notes and orange. taste has more bitterness, but a touch too much sweetness and is a bit off-balance. OK.

Still a great sessionable bitter. A good balance between hops and malt with a thirst quenching caricature.

A local favorite in my neck of the woods. There are few simpler pleasures in life greater than a pint of well kept Doom Bar on a balmy Autumn night under the stars.

(Cask): Amber colour, medium white head. Subdued fruity aroma, grassy, malty. Orange, tangerine and sharp hop bite dominate the flavour with some slight malty notes too. Lovely thick syrupy body. Very nice indeed.

This beer has a great reputation but for me it remains a little bland. Great bronze brown colour. The flavour is malted milk biscuits and a little hint of lemon.

Cask at Taylor's streatham. Pours a rich gold with a thin white head. Malty sweet aroma with a touch of honey and caramel. Honey and caramel in the flavour with some lemon too and a mildly bitter finish. It's fine.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
24/05/2013 Birrifugio Trastevere (handpump). Ambrata, viva e limpidissima, schiuma bianca sottile e poco persistente.
