tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jan 10, 2005 Icing sugar, cola, floury dough in the nose. Hazy amber-brown with lasting cover of dense, small-bubbled, off-white head that leaves a patchy lace. Notes of blood and iron/rust in the flavour. Fairly bland - sweet, some soy sauce like saltiness, mild peppery aftertaste. Somewhat puckering and astringent in the mouth. Bottle (Best Before 07/05) sampled with MartinT and Rastacouere. Rastacouere (5552), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jan 9, 2005 2cm off-white head initially covers a dark brown body, hinting at red. Very sweet aroma boasts a pale fruit hint, les juicy litchi, white grape or white cranberry, hard to pinpoint, but very kool-aid reminding in essence, overbearing a tough doughy yeastiness letting powder sugar notes shine through. Palate is surprisingly bland displaying a mineralic nature and lots of ironoxide flavors that merge into a deceiving short finish. Mouthfeel is watery with a carbonated soy sauce texture. As with most du bocq beers, firmer malts would be most welcome. madsberg (4875), Søborg, Denmark Jan 9, 2005 Bottled: Dark clear amber coloured. dense beige head. Is fruity in the aroma. Apple comes to mind. Flavour is light spiced, fruity and has alcoholnotes. Light notes of caramel. Smoothe and vague flavour in the end, with light spiced notes. Aroma of caramel, malt, chocolate and alcohol. Flavor of malt, chocolate, caramel and brown sugar. Medium body, liquorous texture, soft carbonation. It’s fairly complex and interesting but not special or amazing. Joeh (1908), Buckinghamshire, England Nov 14, 2004 330ml bottle brought back from Belgium, in a Duvel glass. Deep brown that light finds hard to penetrate, held up to the light ruby comes through, fluffy, lasting off white head. Aroma is heavy chocolate with some spice. The beer is very malty, sweet with lots of chocolate and a spicy edge. Nice.
