Bottle. Very dark brown, thick beige head. Yeasty brune with good choc, not as boiled as some. Smooth and full in mouth, some grainyness. Good example of its style

Bottled. Very dark ruby, minimal head. Roasty coffee aroma. Medium sweet with clean mouthfeel and medium body. Lightly salty. Once it warms ash and fruits are revealed, but it doeasn’t really cover the somewhat sharp and metallic finish.

Dark brown with a large off-white head. The aroma was strange and completely unexpected: a sweet lemon-sherbet mixed with spices, developing into liquorice with warmth. Taste of malt, fruit and dark chocolate with a late bitter hit.

Dark copper, foamy tan head. Very little aroma to speak of-- vaguely sweet. Slightly fruiy roasted malt palate, but not very flavourful to be honest. Good but not great.

Ooohh, I liked this little gem. I was expecting a little of the La Gauloise Brune in this one, but this was in a league of its own. Tasted from the bottle into a chalice, cool and not cold. Poured an inviting dark, slightly hazy, ruby-garnet brown with a big, dense, slowly forming tannish head that lasted and left webs of lace. Sultanas and fermented plum wine in the nose, with strong wafts of mud-cake and peppery notes of yeast and alcohol. Unexpectedly (for the ABV) warming, mellow and homely in the mouth with a spicy mix of dried red fruits, chocolaty dark malts and notes of bready yeast. Quite smooth, well rounded and soft and prickly in carbonation, it crossed the tongue with a slow pace belying its modest alcohol level. Finish was quite long, dry and malty. A nice little winter warmer. Lovely!! (33cL, BBE 10/06)

Amber with an offwhite head. Aroma from tar, chocolate, licorice and some plum. Spicy flavor with tar and chocolate. Quite salyt, especially in the finish. More like a stout than abbey dubbel, but still quite good.
