Pours a dark mahogany color with a large off-white foamy head. A sweet candied aroma, yeast, fruity and ripe. The flavor is also rich; sweet chocolates, candies, dry yeast and lemon, overripe berries and tropical fruit and a very noticeable blast of English hops. A thin mouthfeel. Overall, nice. mar (1981), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 10, 2009 My 400th rating! Wow!!! I have kept this in my cellar for quite some time, and it has really paid off. Although there was a little bit of fuzzies growing on the cork on the outside, the beer was A ok and then some. It poured a dark orange with a nice billowy head. And then I took one sniff... Wow! The regular St. Bernardus 12 was the beer that really tugged the hook on me for craft beer, and then there’s this! This beer smells great. marshmallows, vanilla, plum, raisins, cherries, chocolate and everything else that can possibly smell good in a beer. The taste is almost overwhelmingly good. Vanilla and marshmallows overlay the whole experience, but it’s the subtle complexity that really makes this beer. Plums, raisins, oak, chocolate, cherries, citrus, raisins... Every time you take a sip, you get something new and interesting. Like sex in a liquid form. And the alcohol has all but disappeared. Damn. Stunning. This beer is amazing! The aroma was malts, light yeast, dark fruits and some faint chocolate. The flavor was some raisin, yeast, chocolate and a bit of roasted malt. The mouthfeel was expertly crafted with a nice rush of warming alcohol towards the finish.
