WesKBob (317), Bethany, Oklahoma, USA Jul 30, 2009 Pours a very dark brown with a thin white head. Aroma of raisins and figs. Flavor is sweet roasted caramel malt, dried fruits and candy sugar. Warming, but hides the high ABV well. Full, sticky mouthfeel with a warm, smooth finish. A classic Belgian. Not sure if it’s worthy of top 50, but an excellent beer. Cavie (1300), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Jul 29, 2009 Foggy maroon. Aged grape and raisin aroma. A hint of alcohol on the nose. Tastes like the most amazing grape juice ever. Aged perfectly with the right touch of alcohol. I don’t see how this could be better. kapusta (84), Dover, Delaware, USA Jul 26, 2009 Bottle from 2005.
Aroma is of ripe fruit, scotch and chocolate. Head is almost nothing to speak of. Flavor is very mellow, with ripe fruits, slight sugary sweetness, but with madera notes. Very good and the alcohol is very well hidden eManu (170), Brussels, Belgium Jul 25, 2009 Pours a very dark red brown color with a very thick and creamy tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and sweet dry fruits. Flavors are very rich and complex, with a heavy roasted caramel taste, dry fruits like raisins and plums. It has a nice creamy feel and smooth and spicy and sweet dry finish, with so much great flavors in the mouth that the only problem is that my 33cl bottle was to small. elgiacomo (64), Ringgold, Georgia, USA Jul 25, 2009 12oz bottle for this review. Pours brown with a big frothty off-white head that lasts the duration of the glass and leaves lots of beautiful sticky lacing. Sweet bready, yeasty aroma with some alcohol. Flavor is rich and complex. Yeasty, bready, with some spice, fruity notes, and a bit of alcohol. Alcohol is relatively well hidden considering it’s sitting at 10.5%, but it’s still there. Mouthfeel is amazing, rich, creamy and smooth, low carbonation with a flavorful finish. An amazing, delicious brew that is one of my favorites. Wish I could afford to drink this regularly. Oh, and this monk packs a punch! BNSLY (43), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jul 21, 2009 july21,09

FezMonkey (268), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Jul 20, 2009 brown color with a medium sized head. Delicious malty raisin aroma. Sweet malty flavor and spicy raisins. A bit of an alcohol bit but what do you expect with 10.5%. TampaBrew (715), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 19, 2009 Draft. Pours a brown amber. Nose is yeast, bread, sugars, booze and dark fruits. Flavor is much of the same with semi warming alcohol presence. Fig, plum and candy sugars are more defined as it warms. Top 50? Not too sure. However, I’d get it again.
