hallinghansen (263), Odense SV, Denmark May 9, 2009 Bottle. Hazy brown body, with a medium off-white head. Aroma is candy sugar, yeast, dark fruits and spice. Flavor is candy sugar, darkfruits, alcohol and nuts. evergreen0199 (259), London, Greater London, England May 7, 2009 Bottle. A deep ruby red coloured quadrupel from Belgium. There is an aroma of fruit, nuts, chocolate, malt and lots lots more. A big thick head on this beauty. Sweet, fruity taste, bananas, plums and a hint of vanilla with nuts, almost creamy. This beer is better than any Westvleteren IMO. I can never tire of this magnificent Belgian luxury beer. FANTASTIC! treadyroc (112), St. Leonard, Maryland, USA May 6, 2009 Very solid brown appearance with a frothy head that settles quickly. The carbonation is damn near perfect, & the flavor is so very well balanced all the way through. Smooth, & almost creamy. Spicy, but not overly so. Even the aftertaste is pleasant. One of my favs for sure. petematte46 (212), Dallas, Texas, USA May 6, 2009 Pours a bronze color similar to a dark apple cider. Forms a 3/4 head cream in color. Smells of yeast and vinegar. First taste is a blast of harsh alcohol. The alochol flavor is a bit too overpowering in this beer and makes it harder to taste the more subtle flavors. tokyogoat (505), San Diego, California, USA May 5, 2009
This beer pours similar to rusty tap water. the pour is hideous. In the glass it looks like murky pond water. truly the ugliest beer I have seen. It looks like Eric Stoltz in the Mask.
It smells like fresh apples , bark, and maybe a little bit of wild yeast.
Taste is outstanding. complex, malty, but not too sweet, yeasty, but not overly chalky, spicey, but not overpowering. This beer is truly one of the best Abbey Ale’s i’ve had.
Its a little thin on the pallet, but its nice because it washes smooth and leaves you ready to drink another delicious sip.
FedorStout (16), Anaheim, California, USA May 5, 2009 Bottle from Bevmo. Smells of raisins and some plums. Beer is very smooth and rich. Great finish to a great beer. Would definitely drink again. angrypirate06 (678), Texas, USA May 4, 2009 Bottle. Thanks to ilovedarkbeer, who gave this to me for my birthday. Pours a beautiful hazy ruby brown pour under a nice beige foamy head. Aroma of cherries, raisins, plums, oak, sourness. Excellent aroma! I could spend a lot of time smelling this beer. Flavor was caramel, raisins, prunes, almost a smokiness. Alcohol was a nice finish. Creamy and bubbly mouthfeel.Beer was fresh, will definitely age well. ska (125), Italy May 4, 2009 33cl bottle, deep red/brown colour, lots of yeast in suspension, creamy and persistent brownish head, full aroma of caramel, dark fruits and yeast, spices and alcohol notes, sweet dark chocolate flavor, full body, finish with some warming alcohol, raisins and spices "explosion" aftertaste with some shy bitterness that comes out
