What was left poured an opaque deep brown with a tall, foamy, off-white head. Ripe fruit, a bit of yeast, and booze in the nose. High carbonation but a light, dry mouthfeel. Boozy fruit, dark honey, dark cherry, and a bit of earth on the palate. Big and boozy, but dry and delicious. Short, clean finish with a little bit of ripe fruit lingering. Strangely it isn’t as great as I thought it would be and the fountain-o-beer I received when I opened it makes me wonder if there was a slight infection. I will definitely give this one another try in the future. sativadreams (2), Florida, USA does not count | 4.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Jun 3, 2009 My absolute favorite beer. It’s hard to believe it’s 10.5% it goes down so smoothly and with such great flavors. The aftertaste is fantastic and the warmth as it goes down into your belly can’t be beat. tilldeath (74), Arvada, Colorado, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 28, 2009 11 oz bottle. Pours like cola with a thin, lasting, french vanilla (with cinnamon) head. Spritely aroma of bread, spice, vanilla extract. Subtle, initially bitter taste gives way to grapfruit and plums, and sugary sweetness. It is very smoothe (the alcohol can hardly be felt), and the lasting tingle of the high carbonation is pleasant. My only complaint is that there is something that tastes off to me in the palate and finish, almost like this beer either needed more, or a lot less, time in the bottle. Could just be that my taster is maladjusted. This is a very fine beer, and I am going to finish enjoying it now. NomDeBeer (399), Maryland, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 24, 2009 Pours a hazy, muddy brown with a frothy white head. Aroma is raisins, yeast, bread, and spice. The alcohol makes my nose tingle. Taste is remarkably smooth and subtle for a beer with such a high ABV - dark fruits dominate, plus caramel, and sugar. Soft, smooth mouth feel with moderate to high carbonation. Alcohol is barely noticeable in the flavor. Good beer. BiddleBrau (306), Midland Park, New Jersey, USA

Birch beer aroma (sweet), natural, slightly smokey. Flavor is sweet but of tobacco and chocolate, not much in the way of a fruit flavor. Hops play a nice part at the front of the tongue. Finishes very clean. Alcohol becomes apparent as it warms and has great mouthfeel. A great great brew cosmicpolly (27), Bruges, Belgium

I didn’t really like the colour (reddish brown). But nevertheless, the taste is much more important: yeast, spices and a strong aftertaste. Undoubtedly a pleasantly tasting beer!
