Commercial Description:
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

Very dark and cloudy...not sure I understand the "dark ivory color" comment from the brewery. Regardless, the appearance is what I expected from a quad...ultra dark browinish-red. Aroma is the typical dark dried fruits with a hint of tootsie roll...raisins and fig most prominent, and it smells sweet, caramel, burnt sugars. As expected, the alcohol is dangerously well hidden, balancing the sweetness well. Great beer...but for my money, the Rochefort 10 is more well rounded...this i a bit rougher around the edges, but I still loved it!

Great apperance. Great flavor. Just a great all around beer. Dark color with a light cream foam head. Gets better as you drink it.

Pours deep reddish brown with large nicely lacing off-white head. Aroma is malty with hints of toffee and some earthiness. Flavor is full of bread and caramell nicely rounded off by a dry rather bitter and slightly sour aftertaste. Medium to full body and well carbonated. Yummy!

330 mL bottle at St. Veronus. Many times. I can’t believe I haven’t rated this. It’s absolutely brilliant. Incredible malt complexity, what with the caramel, the dark candied fruit, maybe some plums or prunes, even a little chocolate. Some spice from the yeast. Some licorice from I don’t know where. And a lovely subtle bitterness. One of my favourites.

11.2 FL OZ Bottle 10% ABV. Marked best before 08 05 13 A muddy reddish/brown color body, average sized frothy off-white head that diminished to a thin cap, lots of lacing, loads of tiny carbonation bubbles. Aroma is rich and malty, earthy,a bit of wood, baked bread, and hints of alcohol, rasins and tobacco. Flavor is very complex and everchanging, a bready yeasty malt with notes of grapes, cherries, clove, wood, some burbon like flavors at times, more dates and rasins as it warms. Full body, zesty clensing sort of mouthfeel from the carbonation, a nice little sweet warming finish.I would not call this sessionable, one seemed plenty for a sitting. A VERY good and well crafted, complex brew. Glad I had the chance to try it.

On tap at the Flying Saucer in KC. Pours a dark ruby-brown body with a huge, two-finger width, fluffy, khaki-pink colored head that dissipates slowly and remains very lacy. Nice. Complex aroma of fruits and malts. Raisin, plum, melon, and blackberry. Robust caramels and a light Belgian spicing, yeast, and hop addition. Flavor is rich and rounded while remaining similar to the aroma. Lots of fruit, rich and sweet malts, and Belgian characteristics. The finish has more of a noticeable boozey taste. Its pretty nice in that it really balances out the flavor and accompanies the sweet, yet semi-spicy notes very well. Lots of lingering dark fruit, especially plum and dates, with a light bitterness. Medium to full, soft, and round body with a somewhat grainy and dry finish. Overall, a very nice Quad. Maybe not as exceptional as I was expecting, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Good stuff.

bottle, pours a nicely creamy dark red/brown head, looks perfect, the head is very stable. Caramel, yeast, grainy, dried fruit, raisins, alcohol, some bitterness of chestnuts, very fruity. I don’t know who St Bernard is but his beer is a real masterpiece! this beer has everything: body, draught, deliciously, balance,subtlety... One of my all time favorites!
