dwaggs2 (530), Lee’s Summit, Missouri, USA Apr 14, 2009 Bottle. Poured a dark plum color with a decent 2.5 finger white head, left lots of lacing on the side of the glass. Aroma was fig, plum, raisin, apple, and other fruits. Flavor was great. Flavor was grapes, dark fruit, and alcohol. A great beer. Worth the hype. Lots of carbonation. Not as good as the Rochefort 10 but a great beer in the style. BrianHagmeier (257), Coralville, Iowa, USA Apr 13, 2009 I think its a bit over rated. Its dark and musky and tastes like fruit and sweet malt. I just dont see how these ratings get so high? Its not that good. smcolw (314), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA Apr 8, 2009 Cloudy with LOTS of suspended yeast clumps. Some light shines through. Nice head with good lace after each sip.
Earthy and slightly sweet aroma. Low level of Belgian yeast and hop.
Rich and creamy, the alcohol is ever-present. A little oily in the body. The aftertaste reminds me of a swallow of brandy. The flavor has some hard-stone fruit tones, such as plum and cherry.
The story of this beer is the alcohol, which I find distracting. IMHO, the dilemma with Quads is that they are made extreme without placing stronger flavors in the brew (like darker malts or more hops). So, I find these to be a little too one-dimensional. MrGGen (221), Italy Apr 8, 2009 Colore molto scuro, schiuma cremosa e aderente, aroma speziato e di liquirizia con sentore alcoolico.Sapore maltato e di liquirizia dolce.Finale robusto.Eccellente. Birdiebeagle (777), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 7, 2009 Bottle Pours a beautiful deep brown-black with a generous off white head. The head last nicely. Has a great sweet aroma of fruits. I get plums, cherries, and grapes. Wow the flavor is awesome. Great carbination. A wonderful mouthfeel. Taste is not too sweet. The alcohol is hidden very well. This is blended great. Has a good robust finish. This is just an awesome beer. milljam (562), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Apr 7, 2009 What a great aroma! Almost port-like....or a very dark red. Dark red grapes, figs and plums give way to a subtle dark chocolate presence. Flavor is very malt/caramel on the front, with a lingering tart/sweetness reminiscent of sour cherries. Alcohol is moderately covered, although still detectable. Very warming. Mouthfeel is quite carbonated, but if you let the head settle out, it becomes very smooth and soft on the tongue. DandyWolfFloyd (331), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 5, 2009 Aroma is of dark fruits, raisins, and farmhouse-ness. Appearance is a cloudy deep brown, with an off white head. The flavor is of raisins, alcohol, and some dark fruit perhaps figs. Palate is supra smooth, but as it warms its flavors change, becoming a bitter more bitter or astringent. It has a smooth carbonation. Beerman6686 (1263), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 5, 2009 This poured murky brown color with an off white head. Aroma was Caramel, nuts, dark fruits and a little bit of alcohol. Flavor was very sweet, nutty, caramel, dark fruits, dark roasted malts a bit metallic, and a little bit of a boozy finish. This reminded me of Rochefort 10 but not as good.
