RHeastings (374), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 5, 2009 Enjoyed via 12oz and 750ml bottles. Pours a wonderful medium brown with an ivory head. Nose is one of wondrous malt complexity. Palate is initially of dark fruits, crystal and Cara-Munich malt sweetness and just the slightest sweetness on the finish. Overall, this is potentially #1 on my all-time beer list. An unbelievable example. War4soccer (115), , Nevada, USA Mar 5, 2009 Complex Aroma, Fun beer!! just like rochefort 10 in a lot of ways.. Nice fruit flavour throughout.. good beer!! jumpjet2k (135), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 4, 2009 330ml bottle in the St. Bernardus glass. Pours dark amber with a huge amount of floaties, far more than I’ve seen in any other St. Bernardus beers. Aroma is caramel, grapes, fruit. Flavor is completely smooth. Hard to describe exactly what’s going on with the flavor - there’s a lot going on with this beer. Very good. ben4321 (941), Rockville, Maryland, USA Mar 3, 2009 Location: 750 ml bottle from Gilly’s
Aroma: Strong fruitiness, complex.
Appearance: Deep brownish color, thick head
Flavor: As it warms the flavors separate enough to show off the excellent complexity that lies within.
Palate: Thick, creamy mouthfeel
Overall Impression:
Really solid Quad, at first taste I was thinking this one was way overrated, but now I’d just say a tad, the flavors really come through as it warms up. Give it credit for nice strong flavors, you can also taste the alcohol flavors, but there is some nice fruit complexity as well. Can’t say I’m disappointed for my 500th Rating. (This was my 500th rating on an old site
still in the process of the transfer to RateBEER) curly (548), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Mar 3, 2009 Tatse out of a bottle from MmmcKay, thanks. Dark brown with light shining through the edges making them appear copper. Some small yeast remnants are visible in the bottom of the glass. Builds a very thick inch and half high tan head that sticks to the glass. Aroma is slight fruit, sweet malt and creamy vanilla. Taste is thick, sweet creaminess on the front of the tongue tapering to a nice roasted bitter toffee flavor. Awesome. BillyMidnight (41), Alberta, Canada Mar 3, 2009 The Platonic form of a perfect beer. Other beers can be judged as "good" or "bad" by the extent to which they resemble this one. The flavours separate in your mouth, while the froth stirs up the sediment, creating the impression that tiny microscopic monks are growing the ingredients on your tongue. bigrond (1039), factoryville, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 1, 2009 I normally don’t care for the beligians. But this beer was very nice. It went down smooth and I wasn’t overwhelmed by the usual yeast flavor.
Very good brew. fuzznuts1 (6), USA does not count Feb 26, 2009 I could smell this as soon as the cork popped. Pours with a huge frothy head and a deep caramel color. I think I taste some dried cherry, but I’m loving this so much right now I can’t tell what I’m tasting. Felling the buzz before the bottle’s even empty.
