COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The absolute top quality in the hierarchy of the St. Bernardus beers. It is also the beer with the highest alcohol content (10.50 %). A dark ivory coloured beer with a high fermentation. The show piece of the brewery. Thanks to its soft and unconditionally genuine aroma, the beer can be smoothly tasted. The Abt has a very fruity flavour.

Perhaps not as perfect as the La Trappe Quadrupel, but certainly delicious. It’s on par with Chimay Blue, although this beer is potentially better and certainly less well known in much of the US from what I can tell (unless you’re a beer fan). Sweet with some fruit esters but all flavors combine into a smooth, slightly creamy result that will make you forget your own name.

Bottle. Beautiful, just beautiful. Abt/Quadrupels never fail to amaze me. So complex, so delicious. Don’t notice the alcohol so much, but its present, like in a fine wine. Glad I grabbed this

UPDATED: NOV 3, 2012 Bottled. A very dark brown beer with a lovely red hue. Excellent long-lasting tan coloured head and thick gloopy lacing. The aroma is malty with leather, berry fruits, prunes, alcohol, port and black bread. Taste of dark, rich chocolate, currants, alcohol and Christmas cake. It is very warming and leaves a tingle on the tongue. the only criticism is it’s slightly dry. A fantastically complex wonderfully tasty beer. Score 4.8

Bottle: Aroma is very malty and fruity. Bananas and raisins are the most noticeable. Pours a dark reddish-brown with lots of sediment floating around. Big tan head with rair retention. Flavor is very malty. Raisin is the strongest flavor followed by alchohol and banana. Rather sweet with a strong alcohol presence. I usually don’t like a strong alcohol taste but the sweetness in this beer does a real nice job of balancing it out.

Lots of head, pours a cloudy brown color, malty, sour aroma, sweet taste, some honey pressence, very rich and thick body, tangy citrus present finishes smooth. Good carbs for being real smooth, dark fruity tastes from somewhere.

Pours a hazy red/brown with a ivory head. Aroma is filled with rich sweet malt, dark fruit, and spice. Taste starts sweet and rich with a dark fruitiness, maybe plum, and spice, and ends with just enough hop bitterness to balance it out. A very complex taste that is very smooth and very enjoyable.

Poured deepest brown. LIttle islands of thick bubbles. The aocohol was so effecrive that it rendered the rest of my notes incomprehensible. Must have been wonderful!

Poured mahogany with rich tan head...very sweet aroma...caramel, alcohol, some earth fruits but not too much...seemed a little light bodied...tastes caramel, malt, alcohol...seemed a little too carbonated...finish was sweet and alcohol...

Amber body with a tightly beaded head. Some sour aromas mixed in with some vanilla and carriander. This beer has all too much candi sugar. A somewhat thin body. Some maltiness. But overall, pales in comparison to the Traps.

Interesting smell awaits you as this one is poured. Alcohol with a tinb smell, reminds me of a brown ale. With the first taste comes the taste of raisons and brown sugar. Nice finish with no bad aftertaste. Wish I had another bottle.
