lakersfan16 (53), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Feb 6, 2009 Pours brown with a light tan head. Many aromas including fruits, spices and brown sugar. Many fruity flavors in the taste including plums and apples, as well as caramel and cloves. Almost creamy or silky. An excellent overall beer. seta18 (12), Boston, Massachusetts, USA Feb 5, 2009 This is a great beer. Doesn’t have the feeling of a 10% abv beer. Great dark color with a pleasing aroma. A good amount of head. Very good taste, with different flavors creating an amazing experience. Bottle. kubilai (33), , Quebec, Canada Feb 4, 2009 Very sweet for a 10%. Small head but sparkling texture. Amazing fruity tones with a bite of spices. Excellent . ljstephenson (111), Lawton, Oklahoma, USA Feb 1, 2009 Wonderful dark pour, perfect head, aroma explodes with fruity tones, malty sweet and very balanced with caramel. Lagunitasfan (432), San Diego, California, USA Feb 1, 2009 On tap at the Yardhouse in SD before Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine. Beautiful dark brown in the glass. Small head quickly reduced to lace. Sweet and fruity, as well as malty, on the nose. Wonderfully balanced in the mouth. Bit of sweet, sour, malty, and alcohol. Could probably drink a couple. Yummy. Ryan82SM (229), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jan 31, 2009 Aroma had some plums, grapes as well as a medium hop character. The head quickly dissipated , and the beer itself revealed a dark amber color when held to light. The flavor was full of caramel, apples, plums, brown sugar and almost meaty at times. Palate was very lively, but quickly faded away. Good, good, good! RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Jan 31, 2009 Outstanding. Medium opaque brown with a hint of ruby red when held to the light. Frothy one-finger head in my Chimay chalice dissipated to a fairly solid film and left nice lacing. Aromas were all over the place, but the clearest were dark fruit like cherries and figs, brown sugar, cake-like malts, and black pepper. But there’s so much more, including cola, other dark fruits, and a bit of smokiness. The flavors followed the smell, featuring dark fruits galore. Everything on the nose is also on the tongue, but you’ll also find additional spices like cloves, and the alcohol kicks in to warm things up. Wonderful creamy, silky smooth mouthfeel, lively carbonation that dances on the tongue, and an aftertaste that settles in as the best of the ripe fruit that was up front in the flavor profile. Solid proof that God loves us. HappyHopper (1), USA does not count Jan 30, 2009 Wow!!! I’m a die-hard hoppy IPA kinda guy, but the balance and complexity of this ale is amazing. Yeasty, dark tones, grape, banana, vanilla, toasted barley flavors. I’m not a huge fan of lighter Belgiums, but this beauty packs a punch. Die fluteges brotes (or something like that in German, the flowing bread, a bit like liquid pumpernickel bread). Buy it, and all of it.
