Holy patoot, here's the holy grail of all the beer offered up by St. Johnny Ryall. Hazy dark chestnut. He goes to sleep by falling down on his face! Yes, this one finally tastes like alcohol. Yes, it works nicely. Malty. Yeah, it's fruity again too. Plums, like everyone else said. Nice dry warm finish. Nice work, Bernie. Now fetch grandpa another Schltz. Thanks lipskin!

Deep brown in colour. Aroma was malty, alcohol, fruity with grapes, apples, and plums. Flavour had lots of alcohol, some malt, plums again and some chocolate. Finish is alcohol heat and a medium bitterness. I would have enjoyed this better if the alcohol was hidden better.

Very nice deep reddish brown color with medium light brown head. Very fruity aromatic nose. Not a very long lasting flavor, but Incredibly warming.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2005 Gorgeous red-tinted bronze body with a serious whirlpool of carbonation emanating from the depths of my goblet and a spumous, persistent off-white head. Pleasing aroma of bubble gum esters, yeasty spice including a hint of cloves, cherry wine, dark candy sugar residue, light fusels and some alcoholic sharpness. Flavor of warm, toasty dark bread with considerable, lingering residual sweetness. Subtle fruitiness and mildly bitter. Has elements of maple syrup, cola, and a subtle tea-like quality. Sweetness hides the alcohol. Lacks the funkiness of Rochefort, which I love. Still a very tasty and special beer.

UPDATED: APR 18, 2008 Bottle pours an amber brown color with a large head and some lace. The aroma is quite yeasty and malty. The flavor is sweet, ripe cheese, and pretty balanced. The palate is good. Overall, not as good as the other Trappists I’ve tried, but still pretty good.

tasted in the same vein as the strong trappists, though much less memorable. tends to be cheaper, but somehow it reflects it. still a pleasure to drink. kinda dorky label too.

Loved IT!! Huge head huge aroma, huge flavor; looks like a milkshake, taste like nutty raisen nouget.

Major gusher--whoops, there goes my beer across the counter, onto the floor... Black/brown with a rocky brown head. Tannic nose with some bitter hops, caramel, toffee, alcohol, black cherries. Quite sweet and slightly vinous with nice smokey and fruity notes--cherries, prunes, some nuts. A bit like a really good fruitcake in a bottle.

Murky brown out of the 11.2 oz. bottle with a frothy beige head. Very fruity nose with hints of sour. Highly carbonated. Lots of candy sugar and dark fruit sweetness. Stong alcohol finish. Solid belgian, but I was expecting more because of its rank.

Pours a deep amber brown with a thick beige head with thin lacing. Aroma and flavor have a nice fruitiness with a good balance of spices. Nothing spectacular, but quite drinkable.
